What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
230 Fifth Rooftop Bar is celebrated for its spectacular, unobstructed views of the Empire State Building and its vibrant atmosphere, especially on weekend nights with DJs. While many praise the creative drinks and appetizers, some reviews note a limited food variety and a self-service model during peak hours, suggesting it's better for drinks and views than a full dinner experience.
"The rooftop has very nice views!! The Christmas n holiday decor adds a perfect touch as well as the igloos n lights! Great places set up for holiday photo ops. They were out of joy chocolate which was sad news for me as I was realllyyy looking forward to that the most!"
Vickie Smith Burgon
"Great views, drinks are decent and decently priced. Food is okay. There may be some what of a wait to go up but it goes by very quick. I think the music is best at the main room. But for the view you must go to the roof top. It can be a bit challenging to find a spot or place to sit at fyi."

"When we first arrived at the rooftop, what stood out to me the most was how well decorated the place was. They did an excellent job with making sure the venue is presentable. I also absolutely loved the view of the Empire State building in the cubbies we picked to sit in, which also had a heater since it was chilly out.
We arrived when they were serving brunch, and I personally ordered the Chicken & Waffles. If I’m being honest, I was a little disappointed with the food. It was prepared and presented nicely, but didn’t have much taste. It was bland. Both meals here didn’t have much taste. I hope it’s different with their meals for dinner, but I felt as though a home cooked meal would’ve tasted better.
Overall, a very nice place, but I personally would have rather gone during the summer months because being outside in the cold wasn’t that much fun. Hopefully I can try their lunch and dinner menus instead."

The Iconic Empire State Building View
To truly appreciate this view, consider visiting during the 'golden hour' before sunset. The changing colors of the sky cast a warm glow over Manhattan, creating a truly magical atmosphere. As night falls, the illuminated Empire State Building and the surrounding cityscape offer a different, equally captivating spectacle.
While the view is the star, remember that prime viewing spots can get crowded. Arriving early, particularly on weekends, is key to securing a table or standing area with the best vantage point.
Experiencing 230 Fifth Through the Seasons
As the weather cools, the bar transforms with its famous heated igloos. These cozy, private domes provide a warm and intimate setting to enjoy the skyline even in winter. They are reservable and offer a unique way to experience the rooftop without braving the cold.
Even in transitional seasons, the bar maintains its appeal. The indoor lounge area ensures that the party continues regardless of the weather, often featuring DJs and a bustling atmosphere. This adaptability makes 230 Fifth a consistent choice for those seeking a rooftop experience in NYC at any time of year.
Navigating the Vibe: From Relaxed to Energetic
As the week progresses and evenings arrive, the energy picks up. Weekends, in particular, are known for their lively vibe, often featuring DJs spinning popular music and a dance floor. This makes it a popular spot for a night out with friends or a celebratory occasion.
It's worth noting that some reviews mention a self-service aspect, particularly during peak hours, and that the staff can sometimes seem overwhelmed. While this might not be ideal for those seeking attentive table service, it contributes to the bar's accessible and energetic, albeit sometimes chaotic, charm.
