Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the New Orleans Jazz Museum for its engaging exhibits on both the historic U.S. Mint and the evolution of jazz, highlighting its importance in preserving the city's musical heritage. While some find the exhibit layout a bit confusing, the informative displays, occasional live music, and the building's historical significance make it a highly recommended stop for cultural enthusiasts. InstagramReddit

"This was an unexpected stop for us while visiting New Orleans. It was very enjoyable and we learned about the city and how banks were run back in the day. The preservation of the culture, music, and people was well presented. The bottom floor was a US mint museum and upstairs was the jazz. It also happened to be free when we visited."

"Must do if you’re visiting New Orleans and interested in learning about the origins of jazz, and its deep roots in African American and New Orleans history. After visiting the museum, you could go to Congo Square and Louis Armstrong Park to immerse yourself in this iconic venue where it all began.

We skipped the ground floor US Mint exhibition (the building was formerly the US Mint) and went straight to the first floor jazz exhibitions. Informative, diverse pieces including photographs, instruments and music snippets and good storytelling connecting them. Should be enhanced by numbering the sections, or marking a tour path - so visitors know where to start and which direction to go in, to follow the developments chronologically, which is confusing currently. Free jazz concerts in the courtyard at 5 pm if you’re there!"

"The New Orleans Jazz Museum is a must-visit for any music lover or cultural enthusiast. Housed in a beautifully preserved historic building in the heart of the city, the museum is as visually striking as it is rich in musical history. It does a phenomenal job of honoring the legends of jazz—both the iconic musicians who traveled to New Orleans to perform and the many greats who proudly called the city home, such as Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, and Jelly Roll Morton.

Inside, you'll find fascinating exhibits filled with rare instruments, vintage recordings, and immersive stories that trace the roots and evolution of jazz in one of its most important birthplaces. The vibe is lively yet reflective, a true celebration of the genre and the culture that shaped it.

Parking can be a bit of a challenge, as there is only limited street parking available nearby. However, the experience is more than worth the effort. And for those who served, the museum offers a military discount—a thoughtful touch that adds to its welcoming atmosphere.

Whether you're a jazz aficionado or just curious about the soul of New Orleans, this museum hits all the right notes."
