Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the iconic red lighthouse and the scenic walk along the pier, offering beautiful Lake Michigan views, especially at sunset. However, some find the pier path narrow and potentially dangerous, particularly for families with children, and note that graffiti can be present on the lighthouse.

"The lighthouse can be accessed on foot from the U.S. Coast Guard station. It’s a short, easy walk along a wide, concrete-paved pier. The red paint of the lighthouse contrasts beautifully with the blue lake. I just wish it were less crowded. There is plenty of parking available, but payment is required."

"I was excited to visit this lighthouse until I realized how dangerous the path is, especially with kids. It starts off wide and then gets so narrow that you can barely fit two people side by side, let alone walk past someone coming the opposite way. The path has big, broken chunks so it could be easy to trip on an already dangerous walkway. I loved that it went way out. I wish there was at least a railing to feel more secure, especially with younger kids. It gets very windy out there. Its free, so there's no tickets to buy. The path is right next to The Deck restaurant. The lighthouse itself is very old with graffiti unfortunately on it."

Elizabeth Jackson

"Located near the bathroom building. Nice walk on the concrete/stone pier out to the old lighthouse. Not sure it's ever open to go in it. Closed when I was there. Wonderful views of the lake and the Pere Marquette beach. Also views of the newer lighthouse. Paid parking. Lots of parking but went late in the day."
