Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Mount Wilson Observatory for its historical significance, breathtaking views, and incredible stargazing opportunities. The chance to see groundbreaking telescopes and learn about astronomical history is a major draw. However, some find the limited on-site amenities and the need for advance booking for popular events to be minor drawbacks.

"Wow what a great little midweek adventure! Apparently the Mt. Wilson observatory compound is open from 10-4pm daily and I believe fully open on weekends with tours at 10:30am and 1pm. Tickets can be purchased at the cosmic Cafe (open weekends only). On the road you walk along to get to the observatory is an astrological museum with many photos and text explaining what you're looking at. If you go to the 100' telescope there is a smaller building across the road to the right of the same driveway that houses another exhibit of fewer photographs and captions. When you get to the 100' telescope, make your way to the backside, around the left. You will come to two sets of stairs, one goes up, one returns back down. Inside is the telescope room you can view through glass. There is a button you can push to hear about the observatory. There's also benches to rest on. The whole thing is pretty awesome. I can only imagine what it's like if you were to take the tour. When you do take the tour you can look through the telescopes at whatever they are pointed at. I'm sure it's amazing!!"

"Went for a public viewing night on the 100in scope. It was really cool to look through a 100+ year old scientific instrument. And the operators were very knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend if you can afford it and stay up pretty late"

Andrew Gill

"Nice and quiet. We went for a talk which was very good. Walked around the observatory. Caution: on your way up you will lose cell reception m. So download driving instructions."
