Reviews Summary

Mount Tallac is overwhelmingly praised for its spectacular summit views and challenging, rewarding hike. Visitors consistently highlight the breathtaking panoramas of Lake Tahoe and surrounding alpine lakes. While the strenuous climb and rocky terrain are noted, most agree the effort is well worth the unforgettable scenery. Some mention the potential for altitude sickness and the need for ample water and sun protection.

"Gorgeous hike! The trail views and summit views are spectacular. Plenty of parking and low trafficked trail on a Tuesday in August. We started around 930am and ended at 330pm. Agree with others to bring water and sun protection and expect a challenge."

Meredith Brunk

"Challenging but worth the view. Keep an eye on AllTrail, it’s very easy to keep following someone and go off the trail. Keep at least 3.5L of water, snacks and electrolytes. I will definitely recommend hiking poles. Last 1000ft feels brutal and the descend sometimes seems never ending. No restrooms, so I went to the Fallen Leaf campground to use the restroom before beginning the hike. I reached at 7am and could find some parking. Returned by 4pm. I took almost equal time to complete both ways. Couldn’t jog while coming down as there are rocks almost everywhere throughout the trail and you feel it more while descending."

"10 miles exactly from trailhead parking lot on Mt. Tallac Rd A. Straight up, then down. Be prepared for stunning lake views."
