What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Fonta Flora State Trail for its well-maintained paths, ideal for both hiking and mountain biking, and its beautiful lake views. However, some users note that trail maps can be misleading due to unmarked dead-end spurs, requiring careful navigation. Occasional litter is also a concern, underscoring the need for visitors to pack out their trash.
"The Fonta Flora Trail is a nice, cleared trail with few roots and rocks. It is open to biking and walking. Cyclists are to yield o pedestrians, but we found it simple to just step aside and let the cyclists pass. Everyone on the trail was courteous. The trail map looks simple enough, but there is a least one caveat for the loop trail: from the parking lot, you take the blue connector trail to the orange trail and follow that around with the lake on your left. This will loop around and lead you to another blue connector that will bring you back close to where you started. That is what the map shows. What the map doesn't show is that there is in another blue trail over halfway through the loop that leads nowhere. It is blazed with blue feathers all the way to where it just abruptly ends. This is not shown on the map. A dead-end trail should not be blazed the same as any other trail. We had to turn around and walk back to the orange loop. We headed back the way we came, because we could not be certain that this was the only error in map. We planned on the 3.7 mile loop hike, not a 10 mile hike, which is what the full orange trail is. Now that we know that, we will hike that trail again - there is a gorgeous lake view overlook which is worth it all."

"Great for hiking and mountain biking my favorite trails!!!"

"We were staying on Fish Hatchery Rd on vacation. This road dead ends at the park. From here is access to the trails. We took the path that led to Linville access. Beautiful view where we stopped and turned back. It was annoying to see a bunch of garbage and beer cans left by the shore by some previous visitors. Otherwise, very well maintained trails. With all the rain, the trails were compacted, so it wasn't muddy. People we encountered were friendly and courteous. Our round trip was nearly 7 miles. Was a great day!"
