What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the unique beauty of the white sand dunes and the fun of sand sledding. The park is praised for its clean facilities, helpful staff, and well-maintained campsites. Some wish for more traditional hiking trails, but the overall experience is highly positive and memorable.
"I’ve stayed here a couple times and it’s a great little park. Camping is right in the sand but there is asphalt parking for vehicles and rvs. The bathrooms have always been spotless, hot water and great water pressure in the showers. Pretty sure all sites have electricity and water, mine all have. Also some day use picnic spots and they are all pretty private thanks to the dunes. I’ve seen scaled quail and mule deer but the big draw is to hike around on the sand dunes! Check it out!!"

"This place was wonderful! The bathrooms were clean with hot water and fantastic water pressure in the showers. All the camping sites had electricity and water as well as a covered picnic table. Site 8 was great, but it is at the bottom of one of the main Sandhills everyone slides on so there is constantly a lot of people around, Site 17 is great cause there is only one site beside it and if no one gets it, you are pretty isolated. The Park Rangers are really helpful and drive around the sites often, and they have a wonderful information/visitors center. They also keep the info board (near the bathroom) updated daily with important phone numbers and available sites for anyone that comes in after the visitor center closes. I am so glad we came here!"

The sheer scale of the dunes can be awe-inspiring, and the smooth, powdery sand makes for an unforgettable ride. Many visitors describe it as a unique and fun way to experience the desert landscape.
Pro-tip: Bring a spray bottle of water to lightly mist the sledding surface if it gets too dry and slow. This can help increase speed and make the ride even more enjoyable. Also, consider wearing long sleeves and pants to protect your skin from sand abrasion during your descents.

Campers often highlight the privacy offered by the dunes, which naturally separate the sites. Some sites, like Site 17, are noted for their isolation, while others, like Site 8, are closer to the main dune activity.
