What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking scale and unique geological formations at Courthouse Towers, with many highlighting the stunning sunrise and sunset views. Some find the arches themselves less impressive than other park features, and parking can be a significant challenge during peak times.
"The parking lot for this location is on the east side of Arches National Park Road, approximately 4.5 miles from the park entrance. While this is a safer and larger parking area, it is very busy, and it can be difficult at times to find parking. Best times to arrive, early morning or late afternoon. There are no oversized parking spaces and only a few handicapped spaces. There are no other types of Park Services available at this location. There are several interpretive displays, which provide additional information about the area and the hiking trail. However, from this area you will have excellent viewpoints of numerous rock formations including The Organ, Tower of Babel, Sheep Rock, Courthouse Tower and Three Gossips."

Geology of Courthouse Towers
The process of erosion is ongoing, and these formations are constantly changing, albeit very slowly. The park's arid climate plays a crucial role, with temperature fluctuations causing rocks to expand and contract, leading to fracturing. Rainwater seeps into these cracks, freezing and expanding in winter, further breaking down the rock. This relentless natural artistry is what makes Arches National Park such a geological wonderland.
Visitors can learn more about the geological history through interpretive displays at the viewpoint. Understanding the forces that shaped these giants adds another layer of appreciation to their grandeur. It's a stark reminder of the immense power and patience of nature.
Photography Tips for Arches National Park
For gear, a wide-angle lens (16-35mm on a full-frame camera) is highly recommended to encompass the vast scale of the formations. A sturdy tripod is indispensable for sharp, low-light shots during dawn and dusk, and for capturing the intricate details of the sandstone. Consider bringing a polarizing filter to enhance the blue of the sky and reduce glare on the rocks.
Beyond the main viewpoint, explore the Park Avenue Trail for unique perspectives from the canyon floor. Look for wildflowers in the spring, which can add a splash of color to your landscape shots. Remember to always respect park regulations, especially regarding drone usage, which is prohibited.
