Reviews Summary

Mesa Verde National Park is overwhelmingly praised for its unique and incredibly well-preserved Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings, offering a profound connection to history. Visitors rave about the knowledgeable rangers and the breathtaking views, though some note that booking tours in advance is essential and can be competitive. The park's high altitude and the physical demands of some tours are considerations for visitors.

"Amazing! Drove there knowing that the museum and tours are closed due to the gov't shutdown BUT still worth it! Got to check this off of my bucket list and there is a phenomenal view of one of the cliff dwellings (Spruce Lodge) from the Visitor area at the top. Once you enter the park off of the highway it is about a 30-40 min drive up the mountains (very scenic) and it is about 22 miles to the top/end where the cliff dwelling viewing area is. You need to get out of your car at the top where you see various buildings and walk down between the buildings to get to the viewing area. Such a great experience. Leave time before sunset to get up and back down. It was nice to have the whole place to myself and just a few other people. So serene. No cell service when you are driving up and back FYI. Also, no charge to get in so that was a plus. Rangers are present and super friendly."

"Make sure you have at-least an hour added to the time what your car gps states to be on time for your tour. Tour starts not at the parking but at a different entry point which requires at least a mile of hike to get there. It gets very hot in summer so do carry a lot of water. They have restrooms at various locations with is good. Glad we carried food as cafes were far. The roads are on a cliff, so many cars were driving cautiously. Signs were well places to plan for scenic location stops. Two hikes are literally next to a cliff, so sturdy shoes recommended. Would highly recommend Longhouse tour if you had to pick just one. Ranger Ray was very knowledgeable and shared a lot with us during our tour. These tours gets sold fast, so do book your tour in advance."

Meenal Vadke

"It’s a nice place and good to know about the history of the people. Apart from the architecture part, the views were more like a far sight canyons and mountains, might feel regular if you have been to couple of other parks in the state or across US. People told to take guided tour but was not open when I went unfortunately. So I self guided with GPT and was good to see and relate."
