What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Cloudmont for its unique 'ski Alabama' experience and friendly staff, making it a fun outing for beginners and families. While the slopes are small and equipment is older, the affordable prices and welcoming atmosphere make it a worthwhile mountain adventure for those seeking a rustic charm. Some caution is advised for beginners due to the high number of inexperienced skiers on the slopes.
"A great day. I've wanted to ski 'Bama for years. My family had a fun day. We only skied for a couple hours but it was so worth it. The lodge, parking, snowmaking, and lift service wasn't like Appalachian Ski Mountain or Deer Valley, but it was all that was expected and all we could ask for. The people running the resort were so kind and genuine."

"Great service, it was my first time skiing, they taught me well, I started from the middle of the mountain until I was able to get to the top, I highly recommend it"

"I went there recently to see the ski area. They have been closed 5 years but wanted to open for a few weeks. They were going to close after the MLK holiday but they had enough cold weather to remain open longer. They make the snow and their equipment is old but they do well with what they have. They have a groomer and it is old too but the slope was in good condition. The slope is not very long, maybe 250 yards and would be a green with the upper part a little steeper and perfect for beginners and intermediate skiers. The slope is serviced by a rope tow and it was working smoothly with skiers getting on and off easily. The rental area looked like there were plenty of skies but they said some of their boot sizes were limited. The price for skiing is very reasonable with rental and lift ticket about $35 to $45 for children and adults and you can ski 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. They also have night skiing on weekends and during the week from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. They also had a food truck and I had a BBQ sandwich which was excellent. They also had other food items and drinks. If I had my boots and if I had gotten there earlier I would have skied. I don't think they will reopen this year unless there is a long period of cold temperatures but I look forward to next year."

The Cloudmont Ski Experience: What to Expect
It's crucial to understand that Cloudmont's operational season is highly dependent on weather conditions. They can only open when temperatures are consistently cold enough for snowmaking. This means their season can be short and unpredictable, sometimes opening for just a few weeks. Visitors are strongly advised to check the resort's status before making plans. Despite its small size, the slope can get steep enough to be challenging for some, and safety is a significant concern due to the high number of inexperienced visitors.
For those planning a visit, remember that cash is recommended as internet service can be unreliable. While rentals are available, it's wise to bring your own helmet, as they are not provided. The overall experience is often described as rustic but enjoyable, offering a chance to 'ski 'Bama' and create memorable moments.
