What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Jean Lafitte Swamp Tours for their incredible wildlife encounters, particularly with alligators, and the engaging, knowledgeable guides who share fascinating local history and lore. The tours offer a perfect blend of adventure, education, and the unique charm of Louisiana's bayous. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, some reviews mention occasional disruptions from other guests or less-than-ideal weather impacting sightings.
"We had an absolutely incredible time on the Jean Laffite’s Swamp Tour! The 90-minute ride was packed with breathtaking views of the Louisiana swamp — lush foliage, beautiful birds, sunbathing turtles, and of course, plenty of alligators. We saw gators as small as 3 feet and some as big as 8 feet, which was amazing to witness up close.
We were aboard the Swamp Queen IV with Captain Jason, who was fantastic — funny, knowledgeable, and full of stories that brought the wildlife and the area’s history to life. He kept us entertained the entire time and really knew how to draw the animals out for us to see.
What makes this tour even more fascinating is the tie to Jean Laffite, the legendary privateer who once roamed these very waters. Hearing about his smuggling routes, hidden treasures, and the myths that swirl around his name while gliding through the same bayous added a sense of mystery and adventure to the trip.
The boat itself was comfortable and convenient, with snacks and drinks available for purchase and even a restroom on board. This tour is a must-do for anyone visiting the area — a perfect mix of adventure, education, and Louisiana lore!"

"One of the best trips I've done, the tour guide was so knowledgeable and made the trip extremely enjoyable and interesting, you get to actually see Alligators as the guide know where they live and his knowledge of the area is interesting. Definitely would recommend, you can buy snacks and drinks on board at a very reasonable price, there is a gift shop and the prices are very reasonable. Toilets at the back of gift shop and seating area with a roof to shade you from the hot sun. Loved this trip thanks Captain Jason"

"Good tour. Nothing outstanding. We saw a few alligators, a bald eagle, an owl, a Great Blue Heron and a few other birds. The weather was not great this day. It was rather rainy. We got a good price on the tickets through Groupon. They should not allow guests to Facetime the entire time of the tour putting people on camera that don't want to be and it was very disruptive with her yapping the entire time."

Airboats, on the other hand, provide a more exhilarating ride. While faster and more dynamic, they can be louder and bumpier. The choice between them often comes down to personal preference for adventure versus tranquility.
