Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Marquette Maritime Museum for its rich exhibits on local maritime history, especially the compelling displays on shipwrecks like the Edmund Fitzgerald and the fascinating lighthouse history. The adjacent lighthouse tour is highly recommended, though often sells out quickly. While the museum is generally well-regarded, some may find the lighthouse tour physically demanding.

"This place was a quick stop on our way through, but it was a really great little museum. Entrance fees were really reasonable and there were a lot of great exhibits that were interesting for everyone in our group, from 4 to 74. There's a significant portion dedicated to the Edmund Fitzgerald, as well as other well-known shipwrecks, the Coast Guard life saving station and the commercial fishing industry. There was also a nice exhibit on US WWII submarines involved in turning back a Japanese fleet. Son and I both loved the working periscope as well.

They also offer tours of the Marquette Light Station, but we didn't have enough time to do that as well. After seeing the museum, though, I can say I recommend a lighthouse tour too, if you have time."

Erin Ford

"Great little museum. Several of the staff knew the history of the light and surrounding area inside and out.
The WW2 submarine annex was extremely well done for such a small area.
Ships store (gift store) was well stocked with both local merchandise and general lighthouse and USCG stuff."

The tour Eclectic

"INTERESTING history awaits! Some on the shipping industry across the Great Lakes, some on lighthouse facts and lore. Just being inside the historical lighthouse is an experience that’s worth the drive. Call ahead and ask about tour availability. You can’t access the lighthouse without being on a tour."
