Reviews Summary

Visitors find Thompson State Fish Hatchery to be an educational and pleasant stop, particularly for its insights into fisheries management and potential wildlife sightings. While some note it's a working facility with limited indoor access and a less polished appearance, the friendly staff and the opportunity to learn about conservation efforts are highly appreciated. It's considered a worthwhile, brief visit, especially for families.

"While out for a bike ride, I decided to stop in. This hatchery has been operating for about 100 years. The current facility was opened in the 1970's. Due to concerns about infections the public doesn't get to go into the buildings. I got to meet one of the staff and was told the construction along the road is the building of new ponds for the hatching and rearing of walleye and northern pike which will be an addition to the trout and salmon. Nice holding pond with fish. Saw either an osprey or immature eagle. Nice experience."

"A little run down, but I realize it isn't really made for visitors. It's amazing to learn about the work they do for Michigan's fisheries. If you visit in the fall, hopefully they will have fish."
