Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Mammoth Cave for its breathtaking geological formations and the knowledgeable, engaging park rangers who lead the tours. The sheer scale of the cave system is a major highlight, leaving many in awe. However, some tours can be physically demanding due to numerous stairs and a brisk pace, and booking tickets well in advance is crucial as tours frequently sell out.

"Great place to see. They have various trails you can go on, some guided some self guided. We went on the Domes and Dripstones tour. This is approximately a 2 hour tour. There are a lot of steps, about 644 total I think it was. These steps go down and then come up. It is also at a fast pace, so kinda hard to take pictures. I’m 66 and it totally wore me out. Just be prepared if you take this tour. You schedule your tour ahead online or there and then they have you meet up."

Roger Purvis

"Definitely book ahead of time, we were thinking of going a second tour and most were sold out at 9 AM.

Our tour was fantastic! We did the extended historical tour. It was a large group of about 75. There was a lot of walking and stairs. We had some small children on our tour, that surprisingly were all very well behaved, but I think we got lucky. The tour guide said some kids scream the whole time and some are fine.

They do shut off all the lights at one point, so if you or someone in your group is scared of that I do not recommend this tour.

They definitely warn you about the walking, the steps, and the small spaces you will go into before you start the tour. They make it very clear there is no easy way to rescue people.

With all that said, it was such an amazing experience! I’ve been to a bunch of caves but never to one as magnificent as this one. The pure volume of this cave is mind blowing. I loved the historical aspect of all of it, the park ranger we had was amazing and a great story teller!

Definitely would go back so many tours and stuff to see.

Also, if you get cold easily bring a light jacket or sweatshirt."

"Mammoth Cave is a great place to visit & take a cave tour and/or just explore the area on several different hiking trails. The visitors center is beautiful inside & outside alike! Pick up a postcard or a National Park reusable bag as a way to support your parks!

Also in the area is Cave City, our 1st Buc-ees in Smiths Grove and the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. A bunch of wonderful places to add to your travel bucket list after your visit to Mammoth Cave!"
