Reviews Summary

Machicomoco State Park is praised for its beautiful, clean, and well-maintained trails and grounds, offering a peaceful escape, especially on weekdays. While some find it lacks unique attractions compared to older parks, its focus on Indigenous history and serene river views make it a worthwhile visit for locals and those seeking tranquility.

"The hikes were very nice. The park was beautiful. All the walking paths the grass was cut so nicely. We took our dogs with us. There was no one else in the park that day made it feel like our own little slice of paradise. Definitely a true hidden gem! We thoroughly enjoyed our day. I don’t mind making a donation for the parking for five dollars. But be aware there is a required five dollar fee."

"Beautiful park if you live close by. Staff is great, and everything is clean and well kept. As a state park though I would rank it closer to the bottom, just due to the fact that there is nothing really unique or interesting about it. The center of the park is pretty much a giant field, and despite bordering the water there are only a few points to get a good view. If I lived closer I could see myself using the trails frequently as they are wide and well groomed. Again though, I don’t consider it worth the drive if you are going any real distance to get there."

Josh Canulli

"Not one of our favorites and we visit a lot of VA and WV state parks. The park is on the newer side with minimal trails and a campground. The middle of the park is vast fields and nothingness with a paved road and walking trail going around the outside. There is a native american informative "trail" but the stones that they used are very hard to read and not well maintained, especially for being such a new park. I don't feel like the park was well thought out or planned. There are bathrooms and plenty of places to picnic. The little walking dock to the water was beautiful when we were there in the evening. $5 parking fee with no rangers at the info station/ honor system."
