What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Kentucky Derby Museum for its engaging exhibits, informative tours, and the immersive 360° movie. Many highlight the opportunity to see Churchill Downs and learn about the rich history of the Derby. While the complimentary tour is good, some recommend longer add-on tours for more in-depth exploration and photo opportunities. Arriving early is advised to avoid crowds.
"Really cool to see a little bit of the grounds outside, I never thought I'd get to see it in person. I enjoyed the museum, seeing all the history and the trophies! I wish I had gotten there earlier so I could've taken the tour but I had other things to do that day so I just enjoyed everything inside. Do yourself a favor while your in Louisville and stop by. Also the gift shop was great it had a lot of good items/designs for everything."

"I did the Ultimate Churchill Downs Tour and it was actually pretty cool. I came into it as someone who has never watched a horse race and I left the tour wanting to come down for the Kentucky Derby. My guide was very knowledgeable and you could tell he loved sharing the stories of the derby. I would recommend this to anyone who likes learning about history and especially those who love horse racing.
One thing that was good to see is they clearly take very good care of the horses at Churchill Downs."

"Wow what a great place to learn about US history, the museum is fascinating and the tour here are excellent. I liked the Barn and Backside tour much more than the Superstars and Spires tour. The first tour if you do an early tour is the early morning tours you can see the horses exercising on the track which is a cool experience. The guide we had, Keyanna was excellent. The Superstar tour I would skip if I were to come back unless you REALLY want a photo by the spires.
This place is a definite must in Louisville I spent about 4 hours here- the movie is a must and every admission to includes one complimentary tour (which I didn’t know about but the other two tour has information that overlaps).
If you are planning to do a tour DEFINITELY book online in advance just in case."
