What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Los Angeles Central Library for its stunning architecture, particularly the breathtaking Rotunda, and its role as a free, accessible community resource. Many appreciate the unique offerings like the Octavia Lab and the vast book collections, though some find parking and navigating the large building a bit challenging.
"This library is a must visit when exploring downtown L.A. But do note there some considerations when visiting.
The library is a beautiful product of architectural design. From the columns to the paintings both outside and inside. It is truly a sight to see. Even the outside area of the library is beautiful. There is a free tour given by volunteer docents of the library that offer insight into various architectural aspects. During our visit there was an exhibit celebrating the library's rise from the ashes of a fire that occurred in the 80's. I would recommend checking out the children's wing and the history wing of the library. Both of these wings have beautiful walls painted in the most elaborate themes. The condition of the library inside is immaculate. It seems the upmost care is taken to insure the library in the inside does not look like the environment surrounding the library.
The library is extremely large. Various floors house books of various disciplines. The library also houses a small gift shop and a small enclosed outside patio. The first floor also houses the police desk which provides security for the library.
I highly recommend you stop by the information counter on your visit. The librarians here are very informative and can guided you in the right direction to whatever you are looking for when visiting the library. I highly recommend you registering for a library card as parking at the Library for members is much cheaper than parking lots anywhere around the area (free on weekends, a few bucks on weekdays).
The only drawback here is the smell that permeates certain areas of the library. The smell is a mix of bad body odor and filth. It is much more noticeable when visiting certain library wings rather than the large halls. I do not recommend using the restrooms here as these facilities are outdated and do not seem to be cared for or well maintained."
