Reviews Summary
The LA Kings Holiday Ice at L.A. LIVE offers a magical, festive skating experience in the heart of downtown. Visitors love the vibrant holiday atmosphere and the unique setting. However, some guests have noted issues with the quality and maintenance of rental skates, and parking can be a challenge.
"If you don't want your child to progress, this is the perfect place.
She was in classes for six weeks, and to my surprise, when I arrived at her class, they told me I had to re-enroll her in the same Gamma/Delta level. I asked, "When was she evaluated? Where are the grades showing where she's struggling? Where are the grades indicating what she needs to improve?" No one spoke to me! My daughter started classes again that same Saturday because I had already paid $123, and to my shock, all the same girls were in the same class! I spoke with the supposed owner to withdraw my daughter, and she said there were no refunds. I lost my $123 in this awful place. I went to enroll my daughter at the one in Valencia, and it's perfect. The first thing I asked was if they had any connection with the one in Panorama City, and they said no. At the one in Valencia, they gave my daughter an ID, assessed her skill level, and the teacher has an assistant who helps her manage the group of girls. They also conduct another evaluation before the end of her training period to prepare her for her final assessment. Don't waste your money at Valley Ice Center in Panorama City."

"This rink is definitely not the closest to my house, but it’s worth every minute in the car to get there. The staff there and the coaches who teach their, the in-house hockey program, and the club hockey, California Heat, are top tier. I came here originally for my son’s private skating instructor, and stayed for the family atmosphere and excellence in their hockey program and also the day-to-day staff. When you spend this much time anywhere, you want to feel at home and know that your kid is safe and has the best possible experience when playing a sport that does financially cost more than others. This rink checks all the boxes. It might not be the fanciest but there is a reason so many families drive from far to come here. Thanks Ice Valley!!!!"

"Slippery melted ice. Poor level of staff quality. Much more expensive than stated in the website. Didn’t have seals."

The LA Kings Holiday Ice Experience
While the experience is magical, it's wise to be prepared. TikTok creators often highlight the vibrant atmosphere, perfect for date nights or family outings. However, user reviews on platforms like Reddit caution about the condition of rental skates, suggesting that bringing your own pair can significantly enhance comfort and enjoyment. The rink operates in timed sessions, so booking your slot in advance is crucial, especially during peak times.
Beyond just skating, the rink serves as a fantastic backdrop for photos, capturing the holiday cheer of downtown LA. The surrounding L.A. LIVE complex also offers dining and entertainment options, making it a complete destination for a holiday outing. Remember to check the operating schedule as it's a seasonal attraction, typically running from late November through early January.
Navigating Public Skate Sessions
When attending a public skate, it's important to be aware of the ice conditions. Some visitors have noted that the ice can become slushy or worn down as sessions progress, especially during busy periods. This is common for outdoor rinks that are heavily used. To make the most of your time on the ice, consider attending during off-peak hours or on weekdays when the ice might be in better condition.
For those new to skating, renting skates is an option, but as mentioned, bringing your own can be a game-changer. Helmets and gloves are also recommended for safety and comfort. The sessions are timed, so be mindful of the clock to maximize your skating time. It's a fun, albeit sometimes crowded, way to experience a classic winter activity in a uniquely Southern California setting.
