What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests rave about The Biltmore's stunning historic architecture, enchanting ambiance, and rich Hollywood past, making it a memorable stay for history and ghost enthusiasts. However, some find the rooms dated and service inconsistencies, particularly at the front desk, detract from the overall luxury experience.
"I chose to stay at the Biltmore in downtown Los Angeles because several movies I love were filmed here. It’s one of the oldest hotels in the city, but truly one of the most beautiful. The historic frescoes and details inside are stunning, and the entire building has an incredible charm.
My room was large and spacious, and the staff were all very kind and helpful. I was genuinely impressed by many aspects of my stay.
Prices are definitely higher than average, but the atmosphere and the location make it worth it.
The only inconvenience was the extremely long line at check-in, but the staff handled everything politely. They even allowed me to stay an extra hour after check-out and helped me with my luggage, which I really appreciated.
Overall, it was a wonderful stay. I would definitely return if I come back to Los Angeles."

"I went to the front desk to request that the iron in my room be replaced. I was asked to present my ID, and since I did not have it with me, I showed my room key instead. Moments later, my room key was deactivated, preventing me from using the elevator or accessing my room.
When I returned to the front desk, I was informed that my card could only be reactivated if I presented my ID. I had to be escorted by security to my room to retrieve it, and only then was I allowed to return to the front desk to have my key reactivated.
At no point did I receive an apology for the inconvenience caused. There was no acknowledgment, no eye contact—only the feeling of being treated as a nuisance rather than a guest.
While I completely understand the importance of security protocols, the way this situation was handled was far from welcoming. Hospitality should make guests feel safe and respected. Unfortunately, this was not the experience I had with Kahn. It is disappointing to encounter such poor standards in an establishment of this reputation.
On a positive note, I would like to highlight the professionalism and genuine care shown by the valet and housekeeping teams. Their service was exemplary—quite the contrast with the front office experience."

"I will be staying again! Had a great view from the 9th floor. Enchanting setting , beautiful architecture, exquisite vintage feel. I enjoyed walking around the lobby and checking out the pool room and looking at all the pictures on the wall. As a History lover this was a wonderful choice. The bar was excellent you must check out the food and drinks. General Parking was $50 for the night with in and out privileges. The staff was kind and helpful. Area is in the heart of all the hustle and bustle. Yea there are some questionable people but if you walk around just stay alert , and enjoy the awesome city all around. No need to feel unsafe if you need to go out. There are fun and hip places to eat nearby. Bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to sound like I am when it comes to sleeping. Overall highly satisfied."

A Glimpse into Hollywood's Past
Beyond its cinematic connections, the Biltmore is also infamous for its association with one of Los Angeles' most enduring mysteries: the Black Dahlia. Elizabeth Short, the victim of this unsolved murder, was last seen alive in the hotel's lobby in 1947. This dark chapter in its history contributes to the hotel's reputation as one of the most haunted locations in the city, with many guests reporting unexplained phenomena and a palpable sense of the past.
For history buffs and paranormal enthusiasts, the Biltmore offers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in stories of both glitz and grit. Exploring its historic spaces, from the grand lobby to the more secluded corridors, feels like stepping onto a movie set or into a historical novel. The hotel actively embraces its past, often showcasing historical photographs and details that tell the story of its storied existence.
Navigating Downtown LA and Hotel Amenities
Within the hotel, guests can enjoy a range of amenities designed to enhance their stay. The Biltmore boasts a spa for relaxation, a chic cocktail bar for evening drinks, and is well-known for its elegant afternoon tea service, often accompanied by live piano music. The hotel's architecture is a highlight in itself, with stunning public spaces that are a joy to explore. For those looking for unique experiences, 'Magic at the Biltmore' offers an intimate close-up magic show within the historic setting. While the hotel offers a luxurious experience, be prepared for the associated costs, particularly for parking, which can be a significant expense.
Room Experiences and Service Standards
Service at the Biltmore has also received mixed reviews. While many guests praise the kindness and helpfulness of the valet and housekeeping teams, highlighting their professionalism and genuine care, other interactions have been less positive. One notable review detailed a frustrating experience at the front desk involving a deactivation of a room key due to a misunderstanding about ID presentation, leading to a lack of apology and a feeling of being treated as a nuisance. This contrast in service experiences suggests that while the hotel has many dedicated staff members, consistency in front-office hospitality can be an area for improvement.
