Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary for its well-maintained grounds, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the heartwarming opportunity to interact with rescued animals. It's highlighted as a perfect family-friendly outing that offers both fun and educational experiences, with many recommending it for its unique, up-close animal encounters.

"Great little animal sanctuary.

First of all every member of staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. From the second we arrived to the people in the gift shop everyone was kind and very helpful. Specifically the staff (I didn’t get their names) in the barnyard were happy to share each animals name and story, which is often my favorite part of an animal experience. They also all seemed to really, honestly, love and care for the animals and you could tell from the way the animals interacted with and trusted them too.

Almost every single animal was active and looked well cared for. We went on a nice fall/winter afternoon so I’m sure that helped but almost every animal was out and interacting with people or enrichment objects. This is better than I can say for some zoos, where sometimes even in the late afternoon animals can be lounging around looking bored. Some of the highlights for me were the wolves and the otters. It was also my first time seeing bison, and you are able to feed them!!!

Also, of course the bunny walk through exhibit was super fun and unique. But a word of advice, if you or your kids are set on feeding the rabbits, go early. By the time we got around to the bunny exhibit they were stuffed and lounging around. I gather that they are pretty popular. Many of the barnyard animals (Ferdinand was my favorite) were still happy to take our food so the feeding cups were definitely worth the 6.5 dollars. Also you get to keep the cup if you want, which is a fun souvenir!

Also a highlight was the way the exhibits were all set up. The trail through the forest was nice, shaded and very pleasant. It gave the effect of seeing some of these majestic animals in their natural habitats. And there were a lot of unique ways to view the animals, including a fun rock overlook at the wolf exhibit and a crawl through log at the otter exhibit for kids (or adventurous and small adults).

So overall great place, plan to spend 2+ hours if you are really interested in animals but you can get it done in an hour if you rush. Absolutely pay to feed the animals as well. Some really unique animals like a wallaby which I wasn’t expecting! An absolute recommendation if in the area."

"This is a really wonderful place. We had the best time. All of the animals were active and seemed to be happy and well taken care of.

There were many highlights, but to name some:

The 4 otter sisters were so playful - they even seemed a little intrigued by us.

Two of the raccoons were active when we visited in the morning and were climbing across their "house."

The farm animals and bison were thrilled that we purchased a feed cup (and so were we).

All of the other animals not mentioned were great to see too. It's quite a large place - we were entertained for over an hour."

"I visited Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary this weekend, and I had such a wonderful time! The sanctuary is clean, well-maintained, and easy to walk around. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about the animals, and you can tell they genuinely care for them.
There’s a great variety of animals to see—everything from farm animals that the kids can feed, to exotic wildlife like kangaroos, lemurs, and even bison. I especially loved the petting and feeding areas, and it was such a fun, hands-on experience for me.
It’s a perfect family-friendly outing that combines learning with fun. I left with lots of great memories and will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable activity in the area."
