"Temperatures in 80s with pleasant breezes
Definitely recommend wearing closed shoes as ther are numerous red ants on the trails!
The terrain varies and offers wonderful views
I took the LAKE BARBARA TRAIL which is one of the few NATURAL lakes in The OC and ventured up to the top RIDGE TRAIL that takes you all the way around the perimeter and back down to where you begin at the WILDERNESS LODGE, if that's where you park to begin your trek.
Plenty of water fowl at the lake to observe and birds in the trees and bushes.
Some squirrels and that's it for fawna this visit.
Trails were not crowded as this was midmorning and midday on a warm day. For those that love having the place to yourself, it's perfect!
Quite the mix of vegetation from very green and new to the extremely dry and brown.
The maple trees looked regent against the hills.
There were some oaks along the lake and acorns on the ground.
Well formed and traveled trails and some are steep on the way down as the trail traverses but with some rocks to act as stoppers it helps those who need to be more cautious.
Loved the red dirt as the trail gains altitude.
The staff at the lodge are very helpful and friendly!
Bradley was helpful with change for the $3 parking station if you don't have your membership card.
Laura is very knowledgeable and engaging to chat with especially! She renewed my card as well.

Hope you enjoy!"

"This trail is awesome! You gain a lot of elevation in the beginning so be prepared for some serious cardio. There's a lot of elevation change with the rolling hills that span the entirety of the hike. There is a bunch to see and overall it's an amazing hike especially during May when it hasn't been too hot and the costal breeze is so refreshing. I traveled the entire 7.6 miles and man is it one hell of a work out especially with 26lbs on your back.
The views of the hike are pretty impressive and at times you forget you are smack dab in the middle of the OC. There's a good amount of scenery to look at and the costal overview is awesome!
Note!
Just make sure you get your car out of the paid lot by 5pm otherwise you will get closed in and may get cited! It happened to me as I came short on time but luckily the parks were gracious enough to give me a warning."
