Today, I visited Valley Forge National Park, a beautiful landmark honoring our nation's founding. It's also the workplace of many National Park Service employees hurt by Trump's shutdown. Federal workers should be doing the jobs they love — not threatened with cruel layoffs.

Reviews Summary

Valley Forge National Cemetery is a beautiful and solemn place of remembrance, appreciated for its serene atmosphere and historical significance. However, some visitors have encountered significant challenges with memorial engraving accuracy and customer service, leading to frustration. While the park offers a rich historical experience, administrative issues with the cemetery services have impacted the overall satisfaction for some families. Reddit

"Our family had a deeply distressing experience with this cemetery. They made a permanent mistake on my father’s burial vault by engraving the wrong year of birth. We purchased a Copper Triune vault for $5,045, trusting that every detail would be handled with accuracy and care to honor our loved one. Instead, we were left with an irreversible error that cannot be corrected without violating cultural and religious values.

After the burial, we endured three months of frustration with their design team because they could neither read nor properly process Chinese characters — even though the cemetery actively markets to Chinese-speaking families through a Chinese-language sales representative and advertising materials claiming to offer “culturally relevant” services. Our family ended up having to teach their design team how to handle Chinese fonts and layouts, essentially becoming the provider of service to the cemetery rather than the recipient.

After we finally approved the monument design, the cemetery informed us that their granite manufacturer didn’t know until they started production that the inscription design would not fit on the monument. It is inconceivable that a cemetery would have a client approve a design before verifying that their manufacturer could actually produce it.

What was most troubling is that, after the cemetery’s mistake became clear, they didn’t send a service rep to resolve the issue — they sent a salesperson. Instead of offering any compensation or taking accountability, the sales rep’s “solution” was simply to ask our family to pay an additional $3,000 for a larger monument. This response shows exactly where the company’s priorities lie — not in service, but in sales. It shows how the cemetery can even turn its own mistakes into opportunities for upselling.

Choosing a cemetery to honor the passing of a loved one is a once-in-a-lifetime and irreversible decision. We share our experience not out of anger, but in the hope of helping other families avoid the same distress. When a place is entrusted with honoring loved ones, accuracy and accountability should never be negotiable.

[Update – October 23, 2025]
Thank you, Scott, for your response and for acknowledging our concerns.
I will reach out to you directly to provide the details, as we truly hope to see this matter resolved properly."

"I was very surprised. I had done my research before our trip back east. Studied the website fully for my trip planning. Mom had asked me while we were vacationing back east to please lay flowers out on her moms grave. We had a very limited window on Sunday to accomplish this but it would make an old woman happy to see her mom's plot revived with color for a season since we all moved west 25 years ago. I was a child when she was burried in 1985 and had no memory of where she was laid out. I had the plot number, section number and grave number. None of this was helpful at all. I called the 24/7 service line at 1:30 pm on a Sunday. No answer and went to a call center. No help whatsoever was given first call, just a we'll have someone call you tomorrow. That is not what 24/7 assistance is. No way to decifer their crazy plot placement and rows. One hour later I had to retreat from looking and change trip plans to come back when someone claims they can help me later. With all the technology we possess today it seems inconceivable to me there is no way to navigate this cemetery without a human helping. Every burial is a matter of public record and visually accessible to all the public. Who needs privacy that constrains one from visiting their relatives??? Unacceptable. When I tell you the plot numbering and lettering system is undeciferable I mean it. Me and my wife were more confused when we left. I had no idea that this sort of stupid could bleed into the 21st century. Fix your website, it is lying. Dont correct people who know how to read what you have posted as your operating policy. Put the entire cemetery on a PDF downloadable link and offer a solution to what I know is a commonly reported issue.
Get you act together. These negative and avoidable circumstances linger in the memory of the visit forever."

"I have had very excellent service from the representatives of the organization. From my 1st meeting last year where we talked over what my wife and I were trying to accomplish, at what price range then we walked the property looking for a suitable site. Our representative showed us several sites and we decided to go in the center ring. He made recommendations most of which with some modifications we accepted. We stayed within our price range.
I do recommend as a buyer you be shown some alternatives that can be added to your slate? Such as pictures of the deceased and even the family on your bench. It’s much less expensive if chosen from the outset rather then later.
Overall, I would give the organization a 5 out of 4.5 out of 5"

This period was a critical turning point in the American Revolutionary War, marked by immense hardship, suffering, and resilience. The soldiers faced brutal winter conditions, disease, and starvation, yet their perseverance and the training they received under Baron von Steuben transformed them into a more disciplined fighting force. Instagram

This contrasts with the park's overall serene and historically rich environment. Reddit

Navigating Memorial Services and Engravings

For families arranging burials or memorials at Valley Forge National Cemetery, the process can sometimes be complex. Several reviews highlight issues with accuracy in memorial engravings, including incorrect dates of birth and death, and difficulties in processing non-English characters. Reddit

The cemetery's marketing to diverse communities, including Chinese-speaking families, has been met with criticism when the execution of culturally relevant services did not meet expectations. Reddit
