What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Ipswich Town Wharf for its excellent boat ramp and reasonable parking fees, making it a great spot for river access. However, weekend parking can be challenging with narrow trailer spaces, and navigating the shallow river at low tide requires careful planning. The wharf also hosts charming community events like Illumination Weekend.
"Launched kayaks on a weekday after low tide and we beat the crowd which was there closer to high tide. We did have to fight the rising tide going out, but it was still rising on our return. The ramp has good traction and was being cleaned by a crab. $10 to park there for up to 12 hrs is good to me."

"Great ramp, so-so parking, very busy on weekends. The on-site trailer parking has narrow and shallow spaces so you really need to have mastered your maneuvering skills. There's overflow parking for trailers at the town hall which is a 10 minute walk. I bring my bike on weekends so I can drive to the overflow lot then ride back to the ramp and lock up the bike.
Be sure to observe ramp etiquette here. Prep your boat prior to splashing before you get on the ramp. And when you haul out, be sure to clear the ramp area before you do your clean-up. This will help you avoid getting the hairy eyeball from the natives.
If you don't know the river then you should probably stay away during dead low tide. At dead low you will still be dredging mussels even if you stay mid-channel. The river is much more navigable 90 minutes either side of dead low tide."

"Make a screenshot, folks, because the Ipswich Town Boat Ramp is a must-visit spot! As you step foot into the parking lot, you'll appreciate the meticulously sprayed parking space lines, evenly spaced with precision. They're practically a work of art on the pavement.
Now, let's talk about the ramp. It's a marvel of engineering, thoughtfully designed with a predetermined grade that seamlessly guides you from the general parking area to the shimmering water below. Pro tip: Low tide is the ideal time to witness the full magnificence of the ramp. It's synchronized with the local tide chart published in the newspaper – Mother Nature's symphony in action!
Nestled amidst well-maintained sea grass, you'll find a cozy bench calling out to weary travelers. Relax and take a seat, for this bench offers not only support but also a tranquil spot for contemplation. As you sit there, you can't help but marvel at the hard work those idling boats put in to produce their throaty sounds. It truly looks exhausting!
The Ipswich Town Boat Ramp has even more to offer. Take a stroll and admire the sturdy pylons that dot the area, a testament to the strength and durability of this space. And let's not forget the occasional squawks of seagulls, adding their unique charm to the ambiance.
I extend my gratitude to Google Maps for their persistence in requesting this review – all because I took a leisurely walk through the parking lot. So, seize the opportunity to visit this boat ramp and soak in its remarkable features."
