Visitors find Happy Alley a delightful and colorful surprise, praising the vibrant umbrella canopy and murals as great photo opportunities. The surrounding area on Miles Street is noted for its developing charm with vintage shops and eateries, making it a worthwhile, quick stop off the I-10.
"Neat little ally with a few murals and a canopy of umbrellas making for cool photos. If in the area should check it out."
Roberta Peek
"Up and coming gentrification area in an older location of Indio. Note: they are trying hard and creating interesting shops and spaces here. Happy Alley is just an old throughway from a parking lot in back of the buildings between two shops leading to the street front. Some clever artist(s) got into it and made it a fun throughway to visit whether you parked in the back or not. The real eye catcher is perhaps thirty or so brightly colored umbrellas hanging from cables strung across the alley. There are strings of LED lights on the cables as well. We did not see it at night but imagine it could be quite lovely. There are a couple murals painted on the walls, adding to the charm of the place. We enjoyed a vintage vinyl store, a vintage vintage store and a worth visiting bar and grille down Miles St. Called the Taproom. This may well be tying into the recent winner of American Idol, Abi Carter, who is from Indio. She won season 22 in 2024 and this local area may well be riding on her victory. Good for this area and good for Abi Carter. I'll bow to others more knowledgeable from the local area to say more about all of this but if you are near, it is worth a short diversion off the I-10 to see what's going on."
