Snapshots of Texas: "A Tribute to Courage", 60-foot-tall cast concrete sculpture of one of the larger-than-life fathers of Texas, Sam Houston, off I-45 in Huntsville. Texas general, president (twice), senator and governor, but also a troubled man with flaws, too.
On this day in Texas History, July 26, 1863: Sam Houston dies in his home in Huntsville at the age of 70. In his final two years Sam was shunned by most Texas leaders for his attempts to keep Texas out of the Confederacy. This photo of him was taken just four months prior to his death.

"This was the first time visiting this location filled with such rich history. In order to truly look/read all documents and photos, it would take several hours to do so. I was thoroughly impressed at the pure level of detail and quantity of artifacts. The museum was very organized and categorized based on time periods.
From my understanding, all the employees who work at this location are actual veterans. Therefore, they’re able to provide an immense amount of information on items and share their personal stories. I would recommend anyone to make the trip to take a step back in history. This place would be suited for individuals of all ages. Just note that there’s a Holocaust section which is obviously pretty graphic, so that section may not be suited for children. Overall, it was well worth the visit and cheap admission."
