What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Homewood Mountain Resort is lauded for its breathtaking Lake Tahoe views and relaxed, uncrowded atmosphere, making it a favorite for families and those seeking an affordable ski experience. While some noted limited food options at certain spots, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the friendly staff and varied terrain for all skill levels.
"Wow! Skiing has become an expensive hobby over the last 15 years. Lol.
I love coming to the ski resorts more than most. It has an awesome location that is super close to our cabin, and I love how the mountain has a great variety of ski runs, but not too many to where you would get lost and need a tour guide.
It was from my first time skiing in five years and all of the staff were super friendly and helpful. Luckily, it was a nice slow day, and I was able to get my ski rentals and lift ticket very easily.
If you head down the center run toward the main lodge, you will have the most beautiful view of the entire lake! Had a great time, looking forward to going back.
They had a snack carts in the parking lot that served corn dogs, and waffles, I believe there’s a full restaurant and bar on the second floor of the lodge."
Finding The Force
"I cannot say enough great things about this resort. As first time ski/snow boarders we didn’t know what to expect. We signed up for group lessons and their instructors were top notch. They had us all independent after a lesson and we were able to progress from there. Their prices are affordable, gear rental is good quality, and the location is wonderful. It’s not as busy as the other resorts and their hospitality is awesome. Very family friendly as well as adult friendly… (two bars on premises). We were with other experienced skiers and snow boarders and they enjoyed their advanced trails. Shout out to our instructors Lou, Tim, and Jose. We wouldn’t have had a great time without you all. The view from the resort is unmatched. 10/10 will be back."

"Stunning slopes with a gorgeous view. It is on the smaller size, but will keep you entertained for at least a couple days. Very pleasant staff, efficient process, and am amazing snack bar with grab burritos on the slopes. Gorgeous glades too."

The Future of Homewood Mountain Resort
As a result of these hurdles and a lack of investor support, the resort announced it would not open for the 2024-2025 winter season. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is now working with Homewood management and community representatives to review potential amendments to the master plan. The future operational status and any potential redevelopment of Homewood remain uncertain, leaving many in the ski community awaiting further developments.
Historically, Homewood has been known for its more laid-back, less crowded atmosphere compared to some of its larger neighbors. This unique charm, combined with its stunning west-shore Lake Tahoe views, has made it a beloved spot for many skiers and snowboarders. The current situation leaves a question mark over whether this beloved, semi-private feel will return in the future.
Homewood's Unique Appeal: Views and Atmosphere
Beyond the views, Homewood cultivated a reputation for its laid-back and uncrowded atmosphere. Many reviews highlight the friendly staff and the absence of the long lift lines often found at more popular Tahoe resorts. This created a more relaxed and enjoyable experience, appealing to those seeking a less commercialized ski day.
This combination of stunning natural beauty and a welcoming, unpretentious vibe made Homewood a 'hidden gem' for many. It was a place where families could learn to ski without feeling overwhelmed, and experienced skiers could enjoy challenging terrain with a beautiful backdrop.
