What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the historic charm of the Old Point Comfort Lighthouse and the expansive grounds of Fort Monroe. Many highlight the educational value and scenic beauty, though access to the lighthouse interior can be limited. It's a highly recommended spot for a local landmark visit.
"Absolutely loved seeing the lighthouse and the rest of Fort Monroe. I took my 8 year old, just to show her some of the local landmarks and she really enjoyed it. There's a small beach and a BEAUTIFUL walking trail. I'd recommend wearing shoes and jeans if you're taking the walking trail as there are spots with prickers and taller weeds. The Fort is in terrific condition and there is a lot to learn and enjoy for all ages, highly recommended!!"

"Had the fantastic and rare opportunity to climb the Old Point Comfort Lighthouse today. Sooo different from other lighthouses I’ve visited. Check out the steps! I don’t quite understand how they built them. The hourglass looking device is the LED bulb inside the Fresnel lens. Wow. You should zoom in on the B&W photo. That’s Old Point Comfort lighthouse “back in the day.” You can see Ft Monroe’s wall and cannon ports to the right. Not sure how the builders planned to miss the lighthouse if they ever had to fire from those ports. Thanks to USCG and Fort Monroe Authority staff for making lighthouse geeks euphoric."

"This is a beautiful old historic lighthouse along the bay at Fort Monroe.
You’ll find it easily on a walking tour and plenty of parking is nearby.
It’s not open to the public and the light keeper house next door is also now private and not open to the public.
This light was built in 1802 and is listed as the oldest building on Ft Monroe today.
It’s in a beautifully maintained state of decay and still functions as a navigational light at night to this day.
Lovely. If you’re already here it’s a must see."
