What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Illiniwek Forest Preserve for its gorgeous, well-maintained trails and scenic river views, making it a perfect stop for a nature break. The mountain bike trails are particularly well-regarded. However, some find trail navigation confusing, and there are concerns about unleashed dogs on the paths.
"The trails are gorgeous and well-mainted. Narrow, but perfect for a single hiker/runner.
My maps app took me to the campground instead of to the trailhead, so I was a bit confused. But once I got back on the highway, the sign was obvious.
This was a perfect stop to break up a long drive. 2-2.5 mile trail."
Melissa Harris
"The trails themselves are nice, but I have to say that I have witnessed on multiple occasions, men on the trails who are walking with large unleashed dogs (twice they were German Shepards). On one occasion, one ran off trail, through the woods and bit me and animal control had to be contacted. Dog owners need to be aware that there are other people (including families) who walk on these trails and they should be leashing their pets. Something needs to be done before someone is attacked again or more seriously injured."
