What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Francis Beach is a highly-rated coastal gem, praised for its spacious sandy shores, beautiful sunset views, and convenient campground. Visitors appreciate the scenic coastal trail and the overall peaceful atmosphere, making it ideal for families and relaxation. However, some note the strong currents that discourage swimming and the potential for windiness.
"Quite a popular spot for children, dogs and general folks to hang out. The State Park parking lot is huge. The general parking is $10 but is free with CA State Parks pass. Some parking spots are facing the ocean, so it is an enjoyable experience just to sit in the car and enjoy the view and waves/breeze sounds. Generously clean bathrooms. Next to a huge RV park. No one was swimming on one August afternoon. Quite windy. It is adjescent to the paved walking/biking path which passes a bit away from the beach. There are mostly sharp cliffs that separate beach from the mainland, so entry points are limited and have to be navigated with caution."

"Francis Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Half Moon Bay. It is connected to the campground where we usually camp at Half Moon Bay. The beach is perfect for relaxing or for family and friends to get together and enjoy the beautiful views. The sunset is gorgeous on days when the sky is clear. I loved to sit down with a drink in front of the ocean. So peaceful!"
