Last week, I visited the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, Maryland. They put together a beautiful exhibition on my collection of Frida Kahlo photographs, and the director Sarah J. Hall invited me to join her for a gallery talk and tour. Such a wonderful experience! @wcmfa @fridakahlo #vicentewolf #fridakahlo #wcmfa #washingtoncountymuseumoffinearts

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts as a hidden gem, highlighting its free admission, impressive collection, and welcoming staff. While some note it might be better suited for older children, the museum is celebrated for its thoughtfully curated exhibits and its role as a vibrant community cultural hub.

"This is my first time visiting the fine arts museum, and I definitely enjoyed my time there. It's free admission, and the staff is very welcoming. I visited early Sunday afternoon so I basically had the museum to myself. The museum itself is a square and not hard to navigate at all. They have a gift shop and plenty of places to sit throughout the galleries. They also showcase local talent.
Wouldn't recommend going with younger children. I saw a family come with their two children, and they spent the majority of the time chasing them around."

"A true cultural treasure in the heart of Hagerstown! The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is hands-down one of the finest small museums I’ve ever visited—and best of all, admission is completely free! Housed in a beautiful historic building right on the edge of Hagerstown City Park, the museum punches way above its weight with an impressive permanent collection that includes American masters like Childe Hassam, Mary Cassatt, Thomas Hart Benton, and even a stunning Tiffany glass vase. The Hudson River School landscapes and the intimate gallery of Old Masters are personal favorites.

The rotating exhibitions are always thoughtfully curated and surprisingly ambitious—recent shows have featured everything from contemporary photography to vintage fashion to major traveling exhibits you’d expect to see in D.C. or Baltimore. The staff and docents are warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate; they make every visit feel special.

Bonus highlights:
- The Singer Memorial Gallery with its soaring ceiling and natural light is breathtaking.
- The outdoor sculpture garden is perfect for a quiet moment.
- Family-friendly activities, fantastic children’s programs, and the summer concert series on the lawn are pure joy.
- Spotless facilities, free parking, and a lovely little gift shop with unique items.

Whether you’re an art lover or just looking for a peaceful, inspiring way to spend an hour or two, this museum is an absolute gem. Five stars isn’t enough!"
