What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Kadunce River Wayside's unique slot canyon hike and beautiful Lake Superior access. While the riverbed trail offers an adventurous experience with waterfalls, some find it challenging. The easy access to the Superior Hiking Trail and the serene shoreline are also highly praised.
"This is just under 2 mile out and back loop on a sour trail to the superior national forest trail that starts across hwy from wayside. It is a river gorge so you will gradually add incline up the gorge and when you get to the bridge on trail turn and go back or can hike further on the superior hiking trail"

"This is one of my favorite spots in Minnesota!! If you are willing to get your feet wet, hiking up the first two falls is super worth it, you get a very unique environment in MN with the mossy slot canyon walls. You can climb up and past the first falls easily, or go around using a bypass to the left. If you are feeling extrema adventurous and are comfortable with some relatively high consequence rock scrambling, you can climb up the second waterfall and continue up the canyon. This requires a tricky climb up loose and wet rock that is not possible or very difficult to down climb, so you should be confident you can do the rest of the hike, (I watched multiple YouTube videos of other people doing the hike before I did it myself). Once upon that falls, the canyon gets very narrow and you get to climb up a few more falls, all easier than the climb up falls two, the main one having a bypass on the left. At the end of the narrow section you get to the crux of the canyon, tripe falls (not actually sure what the name is). This is slightly harder than climbing up the second falls, so you should be confident that you can do this one if younhike the full canyon, since you can't backtrack once up the second falls. I recommend climbing up the falls on the right between the two right most falls. This does require a bit of a swim to get too, but it's much easier than the left, and doesn't require you to cross the falls. You will get very wet and the rock is loose and crimpy. Once over this falls, you have a few more waterfalls to get past, but they are all easily climbed around. If you don't want to do the dangerous middle section, you can hike from the bridge at the top of the canyon all the way down to the top of Triple falls. I took photospheres at all the major waterfalls along the canyon, and would recommend watching a video or reading a guide if you plan on doing the whole canyon. It's definitely worth it if you decide to take on the challenge!"

"Great spot to stop and enjoy Lake Superior. I was happy to find a shady spot where the river flows into Lake Superior. There's a small parking lot, portapotty, and picnic table with access to the Superior Hiking Trail across the road (away from the lake). Beautiful hike along the Kadunce River on the trail up to the bridge and back."
