What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Grand Marais' beautiful, uncrowded beaches and the exciting opportunity for rock hunting, especially for agates and Yooperlites. The charming town offers convenient amenities, while the surrounding natural attractions like the Grand Sable Dunes and Sable Falls provide stunning scenery. Some find the lake water very cold and popular rock hunting spots can get busy.
"Beautiful beach in a quaint town. The beach is quiet and clean. Not crowded. Stores, restaurants, pubs, and gas are all within walking distance."

"Scooping up amazing rocks was fun first as a first time treasure hunter!
I was there July 24, 2025. It was about 60° with a breeze (which held the biting flies off, mostly) and the waves of fridged water lapping quick were a bit aggressive that day. Hunting Yooperlite rocks was the goal but it was that goal for about 65 other people. Otherwise, the beach itself was clean and held opportunity to light a fire, relax and watch the incredible sunset."

"Nice place for rock hunting and swimming. Well kept. Plenty of space. The beach is a bit of a walk from the parking lot. Dog friendly."
