Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the stunning 'mini Grand Canyon' scenery and the refreshing Salt River, perfect for tubing and cooling off. The opportunity to see wild horses is a major highlight. While the drive is beautiful, some find the restroom facilities basic and the hike back up from the river strenuous.

"We took the Vette out for its first trip of fall. The ride on historic route 60, deep into the Tonto national Forest did not disappoint. The views of the canyon all around us was definitely worth the 70+ mile drive from San Tan. The bathrooms were clean, it wasn't very crowded at all on this beautiful Monday morning. We walked across the old bridge. There are a few trials up the road . However my dodgy knee was acting up, so we skipped the hike"

"Excellent place to come if you are the hiking or outdoors type. Lots of stuff to do including bike riding, fishing, having a picnic or even just to hang out. Lots of parking spaces for handicapped parking. There is also very clean public restrooms. Spectacular views. During the summer months this area can get extremely packed with river goers. The wild horses can be seen and heard at random times if you look for them. Excellent part of the salt river"

"We stopped only at the rest area here and it was an unexpected treat. You walk down a large set of steps (coming back up was torture) but you can walk right down to the river (some people were playing/tubing in it). We sat on rocks along it and it was one of the most peaceful experiences hearing/seeing the water rush by. There were super small water falls which were beatiful. The only negative thing was the smell in the bathrooms and there were no sinks. The toilets are toilet seats that lead to big holes in the ground so I can imagine it is hard to control the smell. Other than that the bathrooms were decent."
