"An Unforgettable Wildlife Adventure!
We recently visited a drive-through wildlife, and it was truly an amazing experience from start to finish! It felt like a real-life safari where we got to connect with animals up close, right from the comfort of our car.
The animals were incredibly friendly and calm — they gently approached our vehicle without causing any damage or stress. It was heartwarming to see how comfortable and curious they were. Feeding them was a major highlight, especially the deer, giraffes, and even ostrich. The giraffes were absolutely adorable — they leaned in so gracefully for hand-feeding, and it was such a magical moment to connect with them eye to eye.
No bumping, no rushing — just peaceful, joyful interaction. It felt safe, well-organized, and respectful to both the animals and visitors. The entire experience was filled with smiles and laughter.
This is a must-visit spot for families, couples, or anyone who loves animals and nature. We’ll definitely be back"

"My daughter and I love this drive through safari! Feeding the giraffes is our anticipated moment of the drive!
Throughout the years, the driving routes have changed a bit - gives a bit of a fresh take on things and renovations at the midpoint are wonderful. Sad to say the amount of feed you get has declined. And it's possible the weather was a factor but seems like less animals than previous years.
Don't get me wrong, I still love to support the wildlife center. It's worth our time to have the experience."

"Fossil Rim was truly an unforgettable experience! The bus tour was not only fun but incredibly educational. Seeing the animals up close in their natural habitat was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The lush greenery and breathtaking views made the whole experience even more magical.
The staff is truly amazing—especially Will. He deserves a raise! A true gentleman through and through. When it started raining halfway into the tour, he kindly gave my friend and me the umbrella while he got completely soaked. His kindness and professionalism added so much to the day. Highly recommend this place for nature lovers, families, and anyone looking for a meaningful outdoor adventure."

The Fossil Rim Experience: Drive vs. Guided Tour
The guided safari tour, often conducted in a bus or specialized vehicle, provides a more curated and educational experience. Guides share insights into the animals' behaviors, conservation efforts, and the history of the center. Importantly, guided tours often grant access to areas not accessible to private vehicles, allowing for even closer encounters and a deeper understanding of the wildlife. Many visitors find the guided tour to be well worth the extra cost for the enhanced interaction and information provided.
Regardless of your choice, be prepared for animals to approach your vehicle, especially if you have feed. The goal is a respectful and immersive encounter with wildlife in a naturalistic setting.
Conservation and Education at Fossil Rim
The center plays a crucial role in educating the public about wildlife conservation. Through its tours and onsite facilities, visitors gain a greater appreciation for the challenges faced by these animals and the importance of conservation efforts. The knowledgeable guides on the safari tours are particularly adept at conveying these messages in an engaging way.
Fossil Rim is also involved in breeding programs for species like the black-footed cat, with some individuals being transferred to other zoos to contribute to broader conservation initiatives. This commitment to conservation underscores the center's mission to be a leader in wildlife preservation and education.
Tips for a Successful Visit
Book tickets in advance, particularly for guided tours, to avoid disappointment and secure your preferred time. Check the operating hours before you go, as they can vary seasonally. During warmer months, stay hydrated by bringing plenty of water, as Texas can get very hot.
