"Absolutely beautiful. Worth the time to walk up to Grotto Falls and as you drive back down it’s just gorgeous all the way down the mountain"
Angie Miller
"The place is located on a motor trail. It's a little bit scary to drive here on the one lane road along the mountains with a cliff on the other side. But it's a beautiful road. We were here for a long weekend Thanksgiving, and the most trees lost their lives. Still, it was stunning views. We saw the family of bears: mother and two cubs. So, be mindful. Bears are not only on the pictures or decorations. They definitely exist."

The Magic of the 'Thousand Drips'
The visual impact of the 'thousand drips' is highly dependent on recent precipitation. If you're visiting during a dry spell, the falls might appear much less dramatic. Therefore, checking the weather forecast and planning your visit accordingly is key to experiencing the waterfall at its most spectacular. The surrounding lush greenery of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park only enhances the beauty of this natural phenomenon.
Driving the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail
Visitors often describe the drive as both beautiful and a little nerve-wracking. It's recommended to drive slowly, use your lower gears on descents, and pull over at designated spots to let faster traffic pass. The trail is typically open from spring through fall, and it's best to visit during daylight hours. Be aware that it can get crowded, especially on weekends and during peak seasons, so an early morning visit might offer a more peaceful experience.
Wildlife Encounters in the Smokies
It's crucial to remember that these are wild animals and should be treated with respect and caution. Always maintain a safe distance (at least 100 yards for bears and 50 yards for other wildlife) and never attempt to feed them. Feeding wildlife can lead to dangerous situations for both humans and animals. If you do encounter a bear, stay calm, make noise to alert it to your presence, and slowly back away. Being prepared and informed will enhance your safety and enjoyment of the park's natural inhabitants.
