"Went fishing off a boat by jigging. Caught mackerel, pollack, cunners, cod, and a toad fish! 3 of the cod were over 16.5 inches long. The scenery is beautiful and you don't have to be that far from shore. We saw tons of seals and several porpoises. We used the private fishing tour option from Acadian Nature Cruises with captain Carlos- he was wonderful."
Andrea Schneider
"This is right off Bar Harbor Maine. Typical New England port with nice shops and Restaurants."

Exploring the Porcupine Islands
For those seeking a more immersive experience, visiting Islesford on Little Cranberry Island offers a chance to explore a charming village, visit the Islesford Historical Society Museum, and even learn about its connection to Spongebob Squarepants creator Stephen Hillenburg, who worked as a fry cook there. Access to other islands is typically limited to boat tours, which often circle the archipelago, providing excellent vantage points for photography and wildlife observation. The islands serve as a constant reminder of the powerful natural forces that shaped this coastline.
When planning a visit to the islands, it's important to understand that accessibility varies greatly. Researching mail boat schedules or booking a dedicated boat tour is essential for experiencing these unique landforms up close. The experience is often described as tranquil and awe-inspiring, offering a peaceful escape from the busier mainland attractions.
Wildlife Encounters in Frenchman Bay
Beyond seals, keep an eye out for porpoises that frequently breach the surface, adding an element of surprise and excitement to any boat trip. The bay also serves as a critical feeding ground for various seabirds, including gulls, cormorants, and guillemots. Depending on the season and luck, you might even spot larger marine mammals like whales further out in the Gulf of Maine. [^Review]
To maximize your chances of wildlife sightings, consider booking a dedicated wildlife tour or a lobster boat tour, as these often venture into prime viewing areas. Early morning and late afternoon tend to be active times for marine life. Remember to maintain a respectful distance and avoid disturbing the animals in their natural habitat.
