What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Monmouth County Courthouse is a vital legal institution, with some visitors praising specific staff for their helpfulness and efficiency. However, several reviews express significant concerns regarding perceived bias in family court proceedings, particularly against fathers, and issues with judicial competence and accountability. Delays in communication and processing are also noted.
"This court discriminates against fathers. My husband's child support obligation was reduced in March 2025. Six months later, still waiting for the courts to notify child support. My husband went to the courthouse this morning with the paperwork to try and resolve this. Connie comes out, already with the paperwork in hand, and condescendingly scoffed throughout their conversation at the weekly rate he is supposed to pay several times. Never mind that he has 50/50, child attends the school in our district, he's on our health insurance plan, and we are the default for other payments (By choice. That part is not court ordered.) When he asked her if what he paid for his son that he has 50/50 was a problem, she finally stopped with the passive aggressive comment. She then told him it would take another week before it is completed. We're lucky his wages don't get garnished (self-employed) because he would have over paid by a couple thousand - and I'm sure that would be next to impossible to get back given how abysmal it has been just to get the LEGAL PAPERWORK processed. (No worries, we manually go in and pay the appropriate amount. We would never not pay the obligation. However, we want the arrears to be corrected to avoid issues in the future.) Ultimately, Connie's feelings on what she thinks my husband should pay is irrelevant and beyond unprofessional. There is a court order signed by a judge. Implement it."

"I felt I was discriminated against in the family courts because I was a man.I also feel that the judges primary goal is to just get through their caseload.I believe they communicate to fathers through their attorneys that they have little chance of winning which is a way to dissuade men from going to trial and seeking justice. It helps judges get through their caseload at the expense of justice.I believe that it’s not whats in the best interest of the child. It’s more like what’s in the judges and lawyers best interest There has been a significant increase in violence by our young boys. I believe that’s attributed to the lack of fathers in their lives. I have spent 41 years in public education and I’ve witnessed the negative impact on our children.I blame the judges and lawyers for allowing this to happen. If judges and lawyers really wanted to help today’s society they would automatically give equal custody and access to the children of divorce. This would help alleviate this problem and cut down on divorce.I believe this won’t happen because it would cut down on litigation. It would also diminish the amount of judges and family court lawyers needed to run the family court system.I believe the system is set up to put the public servants best interests over the citizens it’s supposed to serve. As a result marriage rates are down 15 percent in NJ. This has negativity impacted our family structure which is detrimental to society.I know of one case in which the judge ignored their own court appointed psychologist who recommended full legal custody to a father. I believe the judge was mad because they were proven wrong with their original decision.I believe there are also many men who are in abusive marriages but suffer because they are afraid to seek help because they are afraid they will lose contact with their children.I believe there are many children that suffer mentally because of judges biased behavior. What’s sad is I believe the family court lawyers know of the biases but are afraid to stand up to the judges. So much for courage.I believe Prenuptial agreements are also just another way for lawyers to make money. Judges don’t want trials so opposing lawyers can challenge them so you have to pay more legal fees. This will get you to agree to breaking what’s in the agreement in order to settle and save money. The bias also leaves the man with no place to live and little time with their children. The suicide rate for divorced men is very high and I believe the judges and lawyers are responsible for this tragedy.Ive committed my entire life to helping others but wasn’t able to help my child because of this system of justice. I want to be fair so I state my opinion is only of the family courts. In summary I’m very disappointed with a system of justice that I was taught to respect and admire."

Conversely, some individuals have had positive interactions, praising specific staff members for their professionalism and helpfulness.
