What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
John Brooks Park offers a beautiful and secluded beach experience with plentiful shells, especially after storms. Visitors appreciate the lack of crowds and the picturesque sunrises. However, be prepared for relentless no-see-ums and a lack of facilities, including restrooms and accessible walkways.
"The beach itself is gorgeous. The issue is the no see ums. My family is covered in bites. Leaving this warning so you can prepare for this situation. As for shelling...don't go there looking for the variety of shells you can find on Sanibel Island or Anna Maria and you won't be disappointed. There are a massive amount of your easy to find shells. Sunrise was pretty."
Lora Parrish
"This beach is seldom overpopulated and is well maintained, very clean looking. There are no facilities available at this location so potty and change before you get there. The sign says no dogs allowed, but many people bring their dogs here anyways, which I highly support thanks to the low population of the beach overall. Bring your own poop bags and enjoy a nice primarily empty beach with your pups. My babies and I love it here!"
Des Downfall
"It was beautiful and there were shells a plenty after the storm. Easy access and a relatively clean beach as well. Have a go for yourself."

Navigating the No-See-Um Challenge
While the beach itself is a draw, the discomfort from no-see-ums can detract from the experience if not properly addressed. Planning your visit during the sunniest parts of the day, when insect activity is typically lower, can also help. Remember that even with precautions, some bites may occur, so having after-bite treatment on hand is also a good idea.
Beach Access and Amenities: What to Expect
The walkway leading to the beach is a point of concern for some. Described as very hard to walk through, especially when the sand is blazing hot, it poses a challenge for those with mobility issues, including wheelchair users. While the beach is beautiful and often uncrowded, this accessibility issue is a significant factor to consider for visitors with specific needs. Despite the lack of facilities, many appreciate the quiet and natural beauty of the park, finding the trade-off worthwhile for a more peaceful beach day.
