What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate Grace's High Falls Overlook for its scenic beauty and accessibility as a quick stop along the Little River Canyon Rim Parkway. However, many note that the falls are seasonal and the main viewing point is quite distant, often requiring zoom lenses for good photos. The potential for a closer, albeit unmarked, creek walk is mentioned by some.
"It's one of my favorite spots on the rim of the little river canyon. The falls are seasonal, so if it's not trained in some time, they may not be there. This was our first visit to the canyon and my wife and I were impressed."

"We visited August 2024 - Our 9th stop along the Little River Canyon Rim Parkway was Grace's High Falls is a 133-foot seasonal waterfall cascading from the canyon's cliffs, BUT, it was not flowing when we were there in the summer. You can see the crack in the cliff where the water has eroded the rock, and I still give it a 5 star because, it is a very nice little overlook to see the falls when it is flowing. Grace’s High Falls is the highest waterfall in the state of Alabama. While it is viewed from the Little Canyon River Rim Parkway, but it is not on the Little River. Its flow is dependent on rainfall, so it is best viewed after heavy rains, usually in the winter or early spring. If you find this review helpful, click like."

"We were there at the right time but the viewing area is quite far from falls so it wasn’t as fun to see. Used lots of zoom for photo"

Understanding the Seasonal Flow
This seasonality is a crucial factor for planning. While the Little River Canyon Rim Parkway offers beautiful views year-round, the star attraction – the waterfall itself – is a fleeting spectacle. Checking local weather patterns and recent rainfall reports before your visit is highly recommended to manage expectations and maximize your chances of seeing the falls in action.
Even when the falls are not flowing, the overlook still provides a glimpse into the geological formations of the canyon and the sheer scale of the cliff face. The eroded rock where the water would normally fall is a testament to its power when active.
The Overlook Experience vs. Closer Access
To capture detailed photographs or to feel a more immersive experience, many visitors find the overlook to be too far. This has led some locals and adventurous travelers to explore alternative ways to get closer. One such method involves carefully walking down a shallow creek that feeds the falls. This approach offers a more intimate view but comes with inherent risks, as the path is not officially marked, can be slippery, and requires navigating uneven terrain.
For the average tourist, the overlook is a safe and convenient option for a quick stop. If you are seeking a more adventurous experience and are comfortable with off-trail exploration, the creek walk might be an option, but it's crucial to prioritize safety and be aware of your surroundings.
