Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park for its awe-inspiring redwood trees and peaceful atmosphere, often comparing it favorably to more crowded alternatives like Muir Woods. The park offers a range of trails suitable for all levels, and the affordable entrance fee is a significant draw. Some minor drawbacks include occasional parking challenges and the need to book train tickets in advance.

"Literally the best hike of my life! And my husband (who doesn’t usually like coming out hiking with me!) enjoyed it so much, we came back! We were in Carmel for a 5 day beach vacation and spent two of those days here. The trails range from easy to more challenging and the park staff is helpful. The views however, are what really make it. The redwood trees are awe inspiring and I don’t have the words to describe how “at home” I felt. The weather was perfect, the trails weren’t too crowded (the second time we went was on a holiday and even still the trails weren’t too crowded) although the afternoon trains did sell out. I definitely recommend taking the Roaring Camp to Santa Cruz and back, and having some of Marianne”s Peach ice cream. It’s worth the hype. (Get vanilla if they’re out) Park entrance fee is only $10, you simply can’t beat it"

Jennifer Matthews

"When you’re trying to determine where to see redwoods on your trip to the central California coast, don’t sleep on Henry Cowell. I know that just on the other side of San Francisco you can go to Muir Woods, but that can be much more crowded and challenging to get a reservation and get into. Cowell is a perfect place for those who want to see the redwoods for an hour or two without being crushed by crowds. I 100% recommend!"

Marshall Connor

"Enjoyed time spent in the park. Hike to the observation point was worth the views :)

Not overcrowded. People MOSTLY behaving nicely.

Some trees are really old and thick, so if Giant Sequoias NP is too far, this is probably the closest you can get to see these giants :)

Trails are well prepared and marked.

Enjoy!"
