What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often praise the Children's Science Center Lab for its engaging, hands-on STEM exhibits and the exceptionally kind and passionate staff. The clean, well-designed space and limited guest numbers contribute to a positive experience. However, some note the mall location can feel small, and communication about private event closures has caused disappointment for some families.
"We visited the Children’s Science Center at Fair Oaks Mall while traveling from Florida, and I honestly wish we lived closer—we’d be here every weekend! My 2-year-old daughter had the time of her life exploring, playing, and learning through all the hands-on exhibits. Every staff member we met was incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely passionate about making the experience magical for kids.
From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and supported. The space is super clean, engaging, and thoughtfully designed for curious little minds. It’s rare to find a place where science is made so fun, accessible, and joyful for young children.
Thank you to the entire team for creating such a special environment. It’s an absolute gem!"

"Bravo, Children’s Science Center Lab at Fairfax Mall. Truly, bravo. It takes a special level of audacity to run a children’s play center that forgets the “children” part entirely. Selling out your entire facility to a private party without posting any notice online? Genius move. Really. Why inform families when you can let them drive miles, fight for parking, hype up their kids — only to slam the door in their faces?
The look on those kids’ devastated faces as they realized they were being turned away? I hope that’s worth the extra dollars from your private event. Because clearly, honesty, transparency, and basic decency didn’t make it onto your business model.
And the best part? Your staff acted like this was completely normal. Apparently, expecting a public calendar or a simple online update is too much to ask from an establishment that markets itself to families. But hey — why respect the time, money, and feelings of regular visitors when private parties pay better, right?
You’ve mastered one thing: showing parents exactly where they stand in your priorities — nowhere. For a place built for kids, your disregard for them today was astonishing.
If revenue is the only language you speak, then let me be clear: this kind of behavior drives families away faster than any private event can fill your pockets.
Do better — or at least stop pretending you’re a family-friendly establishment."

"Great experience for my kids who love science. They get to learn about a lot of stuff and do experiments. The staff is amazing and the annual membership is affordable. It's always clean and never too crowded, since they accept only a certain number of guests a day. It’s conveniently located in the Fairfax Oak mall where you can do a lot and eat and shop. If only the museum was a little bit bigger and had more experiments and more learning experiences, it would be perfect!"

Planning Your Visit: Tickets and Timing
Public operating hours are typically on Saturdays and Sundays, with sessions running in the morning and afternoon. For those who plan to visit frequently, an annual membership is available and considered an affordable option. The center also participates in the Museums for All program, offering discounted admission to eligible individuals, making STEM education more accessible.
Community Feedback and Experience
However, some feedback suggests that the center, being a storefront in a mall, might be smaller than expected and that the experiments, while fun, can sometimes feel similar to home-based STEM kits. A significant point of contention for some visitors has been the lack of clear communication regarding private event closures, leading to disappointment. This underscores the importance of transparency in scheduling and public access information.
Despite these minor criticisms, the overall sentiment is that the Children's Science Center Lab offers a valuable and enjoyable experience for children interested in science, making it a worthwhile destination for families looking for interactive learning opportunities.
