What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests consistently praise the Eureka Inn's stunning historic lobby and architecture, offering a beautiful, nostalgic atmosphere. While the rooms are clean, some find them basic with limited ventilation and small bathrooms. Service is often highlighted as excellent, though some guests note a lack of warmth during check-in/out. The hotel's central location is a plus, but be aware that on-site dining is often unavailable.
"The lobby is absolutely beautiful, all the furniture and decor is from a long ago era. Service is excellent!
Rooms are ok. Cute in decor but no ventilation in the room, not even the bathroom. Mattress is ok, linens are higher quality and clean.
Central to our needs in Eureka."

"Beautiful old school public spaces, really very cool and nostalgic. Medium size king room, VERY small bathroom... door didn't open all the way, runs into the toilet...
Breakfast was "ok". Packaged cooked eggs, doughnuts, muffins, hard-boiled eggs, oatmeal, dry cereal choices, bananas and apples.
A good experience but nothing worth repeating."

"While I hold a high level of respect for this hotel I am highly disappointed with the lack of hospitality and the lack of care taken to preserve this beautiful treasure of a building. First off the outside and lobby of this building is very fitting! They did a wonderful job making these public areas standout. The person who checked us in and the person who was there when we checkout came off rather cold. The first person was using their phone when we walked up. This is understandable since the hotel is rather small and quiet, but I was disappointed to see the use continue as we checked in. The process was quick, professional, but uninviting with no time for questions or a smile. My husband and I have toured countless historic homes and hotels all over the US and some in other countries. We know what good preservation looks like…. The rooms need sever work. There is no AC or air circulation at all in the rooms. An older establishment does come with some sense of “stale” air smells however the room was nearly unbearable…. Air circulation or proper ventilation is a must. I am very thankful however, that 1 of our 5 windows did open. While we loved the wooden furniture, there was a random low leather seat you’d see in a garage, that was very out of place. The bathroom paint job was embarrassing but the shower itself was clean and nicely tiled. We could clearly hear our neighbors cough their head off and talking to each other late in the night. I understand this could probably not be avoided due to the thinner walls being an older place. The pictures online are extremely misleading. The advertisement talked about about elegant charm and hospitality. While this hotel was probably that in the 20s it is not that now. To me it’s sad to see missed potential in such a unique historical destination. Unfortunately, the cost to bring this building to its former glory will take significant funding from Wyndham which is unlikely. So for that reason, we won’t be back in the future."

A Glimpse into History and Architecture
Many visitors are drawn to the Inn not just for its aesthetic appeal but also for its rich past. Over the decades, it has hosted a remarkable array of notable figures, from sports icons and Hollywood actors to politicians. This storied past contributes to the Inn's unique atmosphere and makes it a fascinating destination for history buffs.
While the exterior and public spaces retain their historic charm, some guest rooms offer a blend of vintage and modern. However, it's important to note that some guests have pointed out that certain amenities, like ventilation, may not meet contemporary standards, reflecting the challenges of preserving a historic building.
The Inn's Reputation for the Paranormal
One common anecdote involves guests waking up to find windows inexplicably open, even when they were certain they had closed them the night before. This has led to speculation about a 'ghost with a flair for fresh air.' While not all guests report experiencing paranormal activity, the consistent mentions contribute to the Inn's spooky allure.
For those interested in the supernatural, the Eureka Inn offers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a potentially haunted environment. It's a talking point that adds a distinct layer to the overall experience, making a stay here memorable, whether you're a believer or simply enjoy a good ghost story.
Navigating Amenities and Guest Experience
Guest rooms, while often described as clean and featuring quality linens, can vary in their amenities. Some rooms may have smaller bathrooms, and ventilation can be an issue, with a lack of air circulation or AC in certain areas. This is a common characteristic of historic buildings, and while the Inn strives to maintain its charm, modern comforts might be less prevalent in some accommodations.
Accessibility is another point to consider. The Inn lacks a handicapped entrance, requiring guests to navigate stairs. The single guest elevator is located in the front lobby, which can be a consideration for those with mobility challenges. Despite these potential drawbacks, many guests praise the excellent service and the overall charm and historical significance of the hotel, often deeming it a worthwhile experience.
