What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors love the Montana Drive-In for its nostalgic charm, double features, and reasonable prices. The classic concession stand is a hit, offering delicious burgers and fries. However, some note that screens can be dim and signage, especially for exits, could be clearer. Long waits for food during peak times are also a recurring concern.
"Nice experience overall!
I really enjoyed my time at the Montana Drive-In Theater. The overall vibe was great, and it’s such a cool throwback experience. A couple of things to note: the screens were a little dim — maybe it was just that particular night, but they could be brighter. Also, the signage could definitely be improved. I had trouble finding the exit afterward. The eatery was packed and seemed a bit understaffed, which made getting snacks a slower process. Still, I had a great time and would definitely come back!"

"This is one of my favorite activities when we come down to the lake and really, this has to be one of the best drive-ins anywhere. Not only is it cheaper to get in than a movie theater, but you get TWO movies for less than the price of one! You get a trash bag and menu upon entering. There are two lines, one on either side of the entry booth. They will allow outside food for a fee of $15 upon entry but, why would you want to when the food prices are SO reasonable?? The food btw, is delicious. Ok yes, it's not exactly healthy but neither is food at the theater. They make good burgers and delicious seasoned, hot, fresh fries!
After entering, find a place to park. If you have kids, consider bringing camp chairs and letting them sit outside to eat. You may want to bring bug spray just in case the mosquitoes are out. You can always park backward if you have a truck and put the tailgate down. Then, head in for food and to empty your bladder before the movie. I recommend arriving 45 minutes early, maybe even an hour on summer Saturday nights, if you plan to get food. The line can get quite long and food prep may take a while. When you get back to your vehicle, make sure you turn all your lights off, including your interior overhead light so it doesn'tshine if you have to get out of your vehicke after dark. It's very distracting to others. Then, tune in to the indicated FM station on your radio. Recline back in the comfort of your vehicle (or discomfort depending on your vehicle.. lol) and enjoy the movies! Lastly, before you exit, drop that trash bag by a pole and them them take care of the cleanup!
One thing to note, unfortunately, they do not want you to switch screens (there are three for a total of six movies playing each night). However, we have parked in the back row and then turned our vehicle around after the first movie to face another screen to watch a different movie. It will usually work out unless the first movie on one of the screens is a super long movie compared to the other."

"It’s understandable that if a lot of people are waiting in line that it might take a minute to order your food and then it will take some time to get the food. But it took an hour in line to order then another 47 mins to get our food out. First 20 mins I thought it was maybe bc I ordered a Phillycheese steak ( as someone that used to work at the Drive-In back in the day when I was a teenager i understand it takes sometime to cook them) but after 6 people with larger orders than what we had also ordered cheesesteaks and they ordered after us had got their food and we was left standing there looking like idiots i started to get alittle frustrated. We only got to watch 18 mins of the movie before it ended. Freaking ridiculous. Will not be back ever again."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
While the concession stand offers classic treats, you can also bring your own food for a small fee. The relaxed environment of a drive-in is often more forgiving with younger children than a traditional theater. Just ensure your car's radio is working well for the movie audio and that all interior lights are off to avoid disturbing others.
💰 Budget Travelers
While there's a fee for bringing outside food, the value offered by the drive-in's own food options often makes it a worthwhile choice. Planning to arrive early can help you secure a good spot without needing to pay extra for premium seating (which isn't a thing here, but good spots fill up!). This is an entertainment option that delivers a memorable experience without a hefty price tag.
💑 Couples
Consider packing some extra blankets for comfort and enjoying the unique atmosphere. The affordability of the double feature and concessions makes it a great option for a fun and memorable evening without overspending. It's a chance to step back in time and create a special shared memory.

The Drive-In Experience: A Nostalgic Journey
Beyond the movies themselves, the concession stand plays a significant role in the drive-in charm. While it's not the healthiest fare, the burgers and fries are described as 'delicious' and 'hot, fresh.' The prices are also noted as 'SO reasonable,' making it an affordable indulgence. This focus on classic drive-in treats adds to the authentic feel of the place. Remember to factor in potential wait times for food, especially on busy nights, and consider ordering early.
For a truly immersive experience, practical tips from fellow visitors are invaluable. Tuning into the FM radio for audio is crucial, and ensuring your car battery is up to par is a wise precaution. Turning off all interior lights is a courtesy to other patrons, enhancing everyone's viewing pleasure. Bringing bug spray and perhaps extra seating like camp chairs can significantly improve comfort, especially for families. The Montana Drive-In isn't just a place to see a movie; it's an event to be enjoyed.
Navigating the Montana Drive-In: Practicalities and Tips
Audio for the films is broadcasted via FM radio, so ensure your car's radio is functional and tuned to the correct station. A critical piece of advice from seasoned visitors is to turn off all interior lights once the movie begins, as even a small light can be a significant distraction to others. While the drive-in offers a unique experience, some patrons have noted that the screens could be brighter, and signage, particularly for exits, could be improved. Being aware of these minor drawbacks can help manage expectations and ensure a smoother visit.
When it comes to food, the concession stand is a highlight, offering delicious burgers and fries at reasonable prices. However, be prepared for potential wait times, as some visitors have reported significant delays in food preparation, even after long waits in line. While outside food is permitted for a fee, many find the on-site offerings worth the price and convenience. For families, bringing camp chairs can be a great way to let kids sit outside and enjoy their snacks comfortably.
