Visitors rave about the stunning, unique striped sandstone formations of Zebra Slot Canyon, calling it one of the most beautiful slot canyons they've seen. The hike is generally considered easy and scenic, though the frequent water in the canyon can be cold and murky, requiring careful navigation and appropriate footwear. Access road conditions can be rough.
"The trail to the slot canyon is very beautiful, very special rock formation, red rocks with lots of holes. The canyon is very nice looking from outside. There is some water in the slot, so we did not go into the slot, just had a look and turned back."

"Absolutely beautiful canyon with a decent (but sunny) hike out.
I've been to a lot of slot canyons but this one definitely comes out towards the top of the list in terms of sheer beauty."
Jaron Palmer
"Fantastic slot Canyon. Very easy and beautiful 2.5 mile hike to get to the entrance. The slot is almost always flooded. It was up to my waist and was cold. Water was murky and impossible to see the bottom. Just take it slow and easy because there are rocks on the bottom that you won’t be able to see. We left our daypacks at the entrance and brought towels to dry off after we got out. The dirt road in is pretty rough and bumpy. Just look for the parked cars and the trail starts just across the road."

Navigating the Watery Depths
Be prepared for the unexpected. While some visitors might scale rock faces to bypass deeper sections, it's crucial to know your limitations and prioritize safety. The narrowness of the canyon at points means you might have to walk sideways to fit through. The experience of wading through the cool water, surrounded by the striped walls, is a defining characteristic of Zebra Slot Canyon and a key part of its unique appeal.
Flash Flood Awareness
As with any slot canyon, flash floods are a serious concern. Always check the weather forecast before your visit and be aware of any potential for rain in the area. If there's any sign of impending rain or if you hear thunder, it's best to turn back immediately. Slot canyons can fill with water very rapidly, posing a significant danger.
The Allure of the Stripes
The hike itself is part of the experience. The 2.5-mile trek to the canyon mouth is not just a means to an end; it offers its own geological wonders. Along the way, you'll encounter unique formations like the 'marbled mounds,' which are another testament to the area's fascinating geological history. Following cairns and footprints is essential for navigation, adding a sense of adventure to the journey.
Instagram vs. Reality
While social media often showcases the most picturesque moments, it's important to remember that the experience can be more challenging than it appears. The water levels, the narrow passages, and the potential for crowds can all impact your visit. However, many visitors find that the sheer beauty of the striped walls makes the effort entirely worthwhile, often having the canyon to themselves, especially outside peak times.
