This is the last home of prolific writer Edgar Allen Poe. The house has a much more deeper history than just Poe, however. The history of the house‘s ownership date back to one of the most wealthy families in the Bronx, John Barrian and a celebrated war hero Richard Corsa. Let’s have a poetry slam @nycparks, at Poe park! I went to visit Arlene at Poe Park, to encounter that she no longer lives within the bars of the park. She’s hiding at the moment, but - she’s not in the park. I cannot find her at this time. 🤔 On a side note- only enjoy Poe and SOME Shakespeare ( I was definitely on a kick in college). Because of Poe, I began to find interest in dissecting the mea...

Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage a poignant and historically significant site, especially for fans of the author. While small and brief, the experience offers a unique glimpse into Poe's final years and the modest conditions he lived in. Some note the park's diverse atmosphere and recommend checking hours carefully.

"The Edgar Allan Poe Cottage was a really nice historic site if you are interested in seeing Poe's living conditions during his later years. Although the house mostly contains period relevant furniture, there was a rocking chair and mirror said to have been original to the house. Edgar Allen Poe, although well-known during his life, definitely experienced a harsher side of reality. This historic house is humble, and shows you how simple and minimal life was for those like Poe. There's something refreshing about seeing his cottage, and his desire to get out into the "country" which, at the time, the Bronx was considered.

Overall, I'm glad I visited. The house is very modest and small, and I spent less than half an hour inside of it so it's a nice activity to do if you have some time to spare. I was able to get tickets via NYC's Culture Pass program, and a docent even led us through the house on a small tour. There is a very small souvenir corner where you can purchase Poe merchandise."

Jasmine

"Came here during the week. Everything was closed down and locked up. The park was packed with homeless and mentally disturbed residents. Wasn’t the most pleasant visit but definitely had to make the stop on the way in to Arthur Ave."

Gideon Bernthal

"Very interesting historic house built in ca. 1812. Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) rented the house from 1846 until his death in 1849. The cottage was recently featured in the Financial Times in its series on house museums. Fascinating interior with many mementos of Poe and his wife Virginia who was his first cousin and died of tubercolosis in 1847. Poe had moved to this then rural part of the Bronx for his wife's health benefit. The tour guide today was very knowledgeable."
