What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Kirkland Museum for its stunning and extensive collection of 20th-century decorative arts and the personal studio of artist Vance Kirkland. Many highlight the incredible value when combined with Denver Art Museum admission and the immersive, densely packed displays. Some find the admission price a bit high for the museum's size, but acknowledge the overall quality and unique experience.
"We visited on a Saturday in March near the end of the day and had almost the whole place to ourselves. If you're a fan of 20th-century interior decorative art the Kirkland is a must-see stop in Denver! Founded originally from the collection of Vance Kirkland, an internationally renowned painter who worked in multiple styles throughout his long career, with subsequent additions by his friend and trustee Hugh Grant (not the actor). Words can't do justice to just how phenomenal the collection is - it has to be seen to be believed! One of the staff said that the items on display at any one time only represent between 10-16% of the museum's total collection, so I can imagine that the curators rotate the items on display in the permanent collection sections as well as mount special exhibitions throughout the year. If you like mid-century American decorative art you will be glad you stopped by!"

"I always enjoy their collections. They have so many amazing pieces, and Vance Kirkland's art is just phenomenal. I love that they have a section of his real studio grafted onto the museum itself. The place is just classy all around. I've also had a few really nice dates here. It's a great spot in so many ways!"

"Very interesting museum! It was actually really surprising to learn how many different artists/ sons & daughters of artists have once resided in, and taken great inspiration from Colorado. The building layout and studios were interesting. Admission price for an adult felt pretty pricey for how small the museum is and how quaint the special exhibits are. However, we were told this admission would also be valid for the Denver Art Museum next door so if you were to go to both it’s not too bad!"
