Stevens Creek Reservoir was a great place to get in the kayak and explore. We pushed into some shallow water under low growth but otherwise enjoyed the open vista with other kayaks, paddle boards and their dogs. All water craft are inspected and registered but no fee. Electric motors ok but everything else is human powered.

Reviews Summary

Stevens Creek Reservoir is praised for its beautiful natural setting, offering pleasant hiking trails and opportunities for kayaking and paddleboarding. Visitors enjoy the scenic views and peaceful atmosphere, especially on weekdays. However, some find the noise from the boat inspection generator disruptive, and there are advisories against eating the fish or swimming in the water.

"Extreme Noise Concern

Stevens Creek Reservoir is a beautiful place to hike or enjoy a boat ride. However, the extreme noise produced by the gas-powered generator used at the inspection station for boats, paddleboards, and kayaks is unbearable.

This noise disrupts the experience for visitors, disturbs the natural habitat and wildlife, and cannot be healthy for the employee working next to it all day. It is unclear why such a loud generator is necessary. Connecting to the power grid or using solar energy would be far more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions.

I measured the noise level at 96 decibels—this is unacceptable in a natural recreation area. The generator’s roar carries across the reservoir, ruining the peace and quiet that people come here to enjoy.

This must be addressed. I plan to report it to the county and other authorities, because such noise is not in line with protecting nature and ensuring a positive visitor experience."

"I recently visited this reservoir and had a fantastic time. The place is open from 8 AM until sunset, which gives plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings. There’s a $6 entrance fee, which is reasonable considering the amenities offered.
One of the highlights for me was that paddling is allowed, making it a great spot for kayaking or canoeing. The water was relatively clean, which made the experience even more enjoyable. It’s also dog-friendly, so if you want to bring your furry friend along, it’s no problem!
There’s a designated BBQ and picnic area, which is perfect for a family gathering or just a relaxed lunch with friends. The overall cleanliness of the area was impressive, adding to the pleasant atmosphere.
Definitely recommend it for a peaceful day outdoors!"
