However, some visitors have expressed concerns about safety and the presence of homelessness in the surrounding town, impacting their perception of the area's overall appeal.
"Went to get ice-cream in Cumberland Maryland had some travelers from S.C. stop us an ask if we were from the area and how safe it was to walk around an down the tow path with all the homeless people and camps there they witnessed when heading that way. Being from west virginia and 19 miles away we didn't know, only what we see in the news. We had to tell them we would not go there. Cumberland is a beautiful old town an from what I see from living in the area there's lots of visitors. Its a dam shame they can't clean up this town from the drugs and homeless so visitors can see the history of the C&O canal other sites.
Just in the 90 minutes we were in town on a new renovation street we were stoped by 4 people who wanted money an one guy who wanted water. We gave him a bottle of water. This was around 4pm on a Saturday
Then to the train station for a look around. This is where we encounter visitors from N.C. we were also stopped by 2 people there who also wanted money."

We did a murder mystery train. 3 hours. The show was so cute and fun, but the FOOD was spectacular. He had the prime rib, and I had the chicken. The green beans were excellent.
The booze was amazing. We dabbled in a variety of choices, and each was good."
