Pear de Vere, born Eliza Martin in 1859, was a “Lady of the Night”, a madame, and owned the most successful brothel in Cripple Creek during the Gold Rush. Her fees per night were $250 (the equivalent of $7,945 today). She died at the age of 37, the day after she threw a lavish party. It is believed she died of an accidental morphine overdose, something she reportedly used to help her sleep. Her s...

at #FortRock Homestead Museum, I found myself impressed with the kitchen supplies and tools at Old Man Webster’s place. it’s a humble abode, and I’d rather stay in the two story Boedigheimer place, or better yet, the Porch house, which we’ll visit later. But, damn, Webster, lemme borrow some tools! The Webster family lived in Fort Rock valley from 1912 through their deaths in the 1970’s and 80’s...

Visitors consistently praise the Old Homestead House Museum for its fascinating and unique historical insights into Cripple Creek's Gold Rush era. The knowledgeable guides are a highlight, bringing the stories of the former brothel and its inhabitants to life. While some note it might be better suited for older children, the affordable tickets and well-preserved artifacts make it a highly recommended stop for history enthusiasts.

"Such a cool and interesting museum about some of the seedier aspects of frontier life! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the house is in excellent shape with many original artifacts from its time as a house of ill repute. Highly recommended for visitors and regulars to Cripple Creek alike!"

"This place is absolutely a fantastic piece of history to this gold mining town.
The ladies taking us through the tour were soo knowledgeable that the past came to life. Walking through the door, the 1800’s comes into frame. As they stated, many gold mine deals were discussed & closed within those walls.
Everything here is exquisite & a must see for any antique/history aficionados. Even the door hinges were handcrafted!"

Mark Price

"We had an AMAZING time at the Old Homestead Museum! It was such a quirky and bizarre little place, and the history was fun to learn about.

This is the only former brothel I’ve ever been to, but it was charming. The tour takes about an hour and I think kids might get bored by the downstairs tour describing many of the original items from the home, but once the guides get into the story of the place more, it gets more fun. Definitely a cute stop worth my of a visit. Tickets are cheap!"
