What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning wildflower displays and beautiful mountain scenery on the Snodgrass Trail, calling it a must-visit, especially in summer. While the lower sections are accessible and enjoyable for many, some note that the summit views are less spectacular than anticipated. A common point of contention is the presence of off-leash dogs, which detracts from the experience for some.
"This was a gorgeous trail that took you though the heart of multiple huge aspen groves. We were there in the fall so the colors were spectacular! It's a nice loop for family with kids too because you can pick and choose how to combine trails to make it a fairly short hike or a longer hike.
I dock it a star because there was a large amount of horse poop on the trail that you need to dodge and a couple people with poorly trained dogs which were off leash."

"We arrived around 11:30 AM, first week of July and were pleasantly surprised to find parking without any issues -a nice bonus considering how popular this area can get. The wildflowers were absolutely popping! It felt like walking through a living postcard, with vibrant colors in every direction.
We didn’t hike all the way up to the top since the trees tend to block most of the views higher up, but the lower portions offered plenty of scenic beauty to enjoy. The trail is well-maintained and not too strenuous, making it a great option for a mid-day outing.
Only downside: we saw a couple of people with off-leash dogs, which was a bit frustrating. It’s a shared trail, and keeping pets leashed is just common courtesy.
Overall, a gorgeous trail and definitely worth checking out, especially during wildflower season!"

"Went up to see the wildflowers.
There are 3 loops depending on how far you want to go.
The first loop is where most of the flowers are. It gets more difficult after this section.
There is a meadow on the next loop that would be pretty tough going up. Some spurs that we did not take come off this section.
The top we did as an out and back. There are other ways that you could go.
The top is treed, but you can see Gothic from there."

The Wildflower Phenomenon
To best experience the wildflowers, aim for the peak season. However, be prepared for crowds during this time. Early mornings or late afternoons can offer a more serene experience and better lighting for photography. Remember to stay on marked trails and avoid stepping on or picking the flowers to help preserve this delicate ecosystem for future visitors.
Navigating the Trail System
For those seeking a less strenuous experience, the initial loops are packed with beauty and are suitable for beginners. If you're looking for a more challenging hike, continuing to the summit offers a good workout, though the views at the very top are more limited compared to the lower sections. The trail is also popular with mountain bikers, so be aware of shared usage and yield appropriately.
Best Practices for a Sustainable Visit
When visiting, be prepared for changing mountain weather. Layers, sun protection, and ample water are essential. By being mindful of the environment and fellow visitors, you contribute to preserving the magic of Snodgrass Trail for years to come.
